Is the market one huge ponzi scheme?

Let's face it. The markets are designed to transfer money from the uninformed outsider to the informed insider. The transfer is legitimized by analysts, investment bankers, and to some extent the media. Why would an insider/founder ever decide to sell his stake in a company? Only in the...

What do you do to keep track of trades for taxes? (trading thru IB)

I have switched from Quicken to tradelog. Quicken is just such a pain with short sales (given how they are reported by IB). Tradelog is very efficient for keeping track of you IB trades. The tax reporting in tradelog is not correct for futures, I believe. Tradelog simply considers one ES...

And if that isn't good enough, someone will even show you how to go "beyond the snake oil" What more can you ask for? :D

    do you like interactive brokers?

My fills with TMBR have always been at the price I hoped for (limit) and very fast. I have now changed all my NYSE routes to SMART, since I like the fast fills of TMBR. I have no problem with TMBR hoping to profit from the transaction. So do I, the NYSE specialist and everyone else taking...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

Cash, that's exactly the analysis I did in the mid 90s when I was trying to plan my "exit strategy" from the corporate world. Only downside I've found is that it at times is a bit lonely. Message boards and chats make up for that. But when I was at the office I used to complain about all...

Import/Link IB quotes into Excel using DDE

You're obviously right. My attempt at answering wasn't clear. It was meant as a followup to a prior post where I talked about the need to look at/copy the VBA code into your own spreadsheet. If you can afford it, I'd recommend that you get a real quote provider, such as eSignal (which is...

    Trading for a living....full time....only income

I have found I trade better if I have some source of alternate income. So what I do is I take on smaller consulting jobs from time to time (I write software). It does make for some very long days, but at the same time it allows me not to get hung up on making money every day/every week...

Trading style worth $1k to learn?

I don't know about that. If you want to see someone with a proven track record with the SP, I'd take a look at Lewis Borsellino at www.teachtrade.com . He's definitely the real deal and has been one of the biggest S&P traders since the contracts started trading. He also has a book out with...

    basket trading IB

In IB "vocabulary" a basket is simply a collection of buy or sell orders (symbol, size, order type, etc). You assign them a name (= the basket) and all get submitted at once when you submit the basket So simply enter the stocks and futures you want in your basket and trade away.

    Lind-Waldock? Anybody use, comments?

I used to have Lind Waldock as my futures broker. Service excellent. You can call 24 hours a day. Good floor representation in SP & grains. Terrible in currencies. The biggest issue was the commissions were to high for active ES trading, which i eventually focused on. Now I use IB.

Import/Link IB quotes into Excel using DDE

Just try the spreadsheet IB provides. Here is the cell example for last: =edemo|tik!id0?last and BID: =edemo|tik!id0?bid I'm using the edemo account. Isn't this what you're looking for?

Loading IB's home page.... strange page??

Funny, it happened to me yesterday, too. On the same computer/IE that I always use and never had the problem with. To top it off, I ended up on the British IB site. I guess they must have some front-end switch that routes to different servers, and the switch randomly doesn't work quite right.

    Nasdaq 5k

For what it's worth, it took the Dow 25 years to reach the same levels as prior to the '29 crash. So these things can take a while to work themselves out.

Import/Link IB quotes into Excel using DDE

One more thought: IB uses Visual Basic to do much of the work. YOu will also have to copy the VBA routines to your own spreadsheet. to make things work.

    TRIN data?

On esignal the opening print of $TRIN is 5.33. Closed at 1.58 at the end of the first minute. Personally, I don't think that the opening print of TRIN is that useful/reliable. TRIN is calculated by the quote provider and depending on the exact calculation frequency it's very likely that...

Import/Link IB quotes into Excel using DDE

Not trying to be a smart*** here, but I just loaded up the spreadsheet that IB provides, and it just works??? Are you using a futures account ? Do you have TWS loaded ? Both are required.

Import/Link IB quotes into Excel using DDE

Why don't you just take a look at the spreadsheets IB makes available at their web site? Also, the Excel sheet is downloaded with all TWS installs into the jts/excel directory.

will NQ spread drop to ES spread level?

Furthermore, there typically seems to be less than half the contracts bid/ask on NQ when compared to ES. It just takes a while to get used to the wilder jumps (too me a while at least).

    LEAPS for swing trading

depending on expected hold time why not just buy 3 to 6 month out options. Often the volume on leaps is very low while the options are much better. Just a thought.

Loading IB's home page.... strange page??

IB's home page works just fine for me. No changes that I've detected. One note though. I know that KDE's web browser doesn't render IB's home page correctly, so maybe they rely on a Java script feature/side-effect that's MS specific.
