    VIX futures have pretty massive liquidity, have you looked at those? You could join in with all the cool kids and sell vol :-) Also, check out far-month eurodollar contracts including the spreads, tons of liquidity there.

    I would rephrase the thread title to put the focus on personal responsibility instead of making demands of others: I would not purchase any kind of trading education unless the instructor already had some kind of publicly available record showing his or her profitability in the past.

    CL volatility VS NQ

    You gotta take leverage into account too when looking at historical volatility %. A 5% move right now in CL would be worth $2,367 per contract. A 5% move in NQ would be $5,932 per contract. This makes sense when you compare the overnight margin requirements for each instrument.

    Capital needed for algorithmic trading at the retail level

    What are you gonna trade? Stocks? Futures? FX? You should probably be able to calculate this based on your ATS. Personally, I calculate it using a combination of historical maximum drawdown and the exchange's current margin requirements (I'm trading futures).
