    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

The short-term trend is much more random and much less reliable as to the true demand/supply equation of the market. In short, it is subject to short-term fluctuations which are closer to random than movements associated with the longer-term trend. Can you please name a few 'edges' that you...

Wasn't he ranked as one of the top squash players in the world at one time? I thought I remembered that from somewhere, maybe his book.

It's all about a weak dollar story rather than a strong EUR story. Personally, EUR is currently my currency of choice due to it's volatility (but not overly volatile like Cable) and depth, etc. If anyone doubts the existence of a weak dollar trend, I ask them to pull out a longer term chart of...

Of course I can say that the market is currently range-bound between .8900 on the downside and 1.2900 on the upside. :-)

Hi JBT. I think that your issue is a valid one range vs. trend, however, one needs to super-impose a time-frame upon the assessment. In other words, one person's range trade is another person's trend. Personally, I see the EUR as strongly trending to the upside however, I am looking at the very...

He's a dick. I'm happy that happened. I think that it was because he won the poll of the most hated ET member. LOL! *BUSTS UP LAUGHING AT HIM*!!!!

The investor was not a hedge fund, it was the Blackstone Group. They invest with other hedge funds. I assume that the underlying hedge funds that they invest with have different time frames and horizons. I have no way of knowing what their thought process is for being in the trade. I imagine...

    V. Neiderhoffer's final undoing was the short index puts that he sold and didn't have the margin money to keep them. He had a number of other sour positions to start with like the Thai Bhat, etc.

I use stops to protect against catastrophic moves. Contrary to what one might have inferred from my posts (that i always get right back in), that is not in fact the case. I suppose that it depends upon what you mean by 'get right back in'. If you mean that I am repositioned back long the EUR...

The EUR is showing some nuance of strength, albeit in an otherwise 'strengthless' market. I like the way the EUR held in and bounced in the face of oil having a very sharp spike to the downside. Personally, I sold a small piece of my position at what is now the low of the day thus far (1.2061 in...

While it is often said that PTJ is a 'top' and 'bottom' picker, I do not believe that this negates the fact that he has made most of his fortune trading with the trend. I believe that PTJ simply attempts to be earlier than most in recognizing a new trend developing and/or attempting to trade...

Chinook, while I agree that the FX market has lots of little chops and mini moves throughout the day, how can one actually expect to have any reasonable way of catching or predicting those moves? If it has been successful thus far, I must caution that luck can fool us into thinking that we have...

Stopped out of half of my long EUR position at 12112. Watched it go down to the lows while carrying 50% long EUR. Re-entered what I stopped out on @ 12108 on the way back up. Still down on the day, but feel more comfortable and different than yesterday.

Thanks Riskarb but you must have me confused with someone else. I rarely trade options and actually have never traded options on the EUR (or really studied them much for that matter). Chinook, I hate to say it but a long here against a stop at tonights low might be a good short-term trade...

no i'm not long vol. do you think that i have all the bad positions? lol. that's one that i managed to sidestep. now that you mention it, seems really cheap (thinking of buying some), lol. seriously, probably has more to do with the time of year than anything else (nobody expecting any impetus...

Trades well now for the first time in days. I like the way it held with $/Yen going over 110. I'm talking my book of course, but, it is showing some rare recent strength here.

You're right ES about feeding him. It's all in good fun though. I actually have to believe that i get some sick fun out of it. At least it helps distract me from watching every pip. Anyway, back to watching Howard Stern, he's got Jenna Jameson on tonight and she's looking good! Yes, you can...

I have to admit that I love reading ET although it's kind of like doing a fat girl or riding a moped, I really wouldn't admit it except with other like-minded people :-). I just found a thread regarding the most-hated member on ET. It's so funny that coinzy is winning that hands down (happy to...
