What Howard Buffett, father of Wall Street legend Warren Buffett said on Gold

Gold is a finite asset. Human produced wealth doesn't have the same limitations.

    1) You spoke of afterlife, just as someone sneezes without uttering "Atchoo!" 2) re: Osama, Islamic destruction, 9/11. Insidious insinuation. 3) You are insinuating evolution is a hoax with an absurd hypothetical. Tricks are getting plainly cheap here. 4) Why would people have no...

    Stop these threads...

Market calls are fine to make - if they can have some substance behind them. Generally, they are best consigned to the grocery store. I have seen little analysis or thought behind many of the market calls here - those that are right or wrong. My guess is less than 1/2 of those making market...

    Near Death Experiences (NDE's)

Maybe that partially accounts for your willingness to accept that which is inscrutable and faith-based. You regard the materialist angle as simple when in fact it is complex.

You were the original trickster with the question the sprung this thread. The goal in using those calculations? To promote the religious agenda maybe? I did not say that Shoeshineboy wants to trick us into being beleivers, just that his arguments are the same as those of the religious right...

"I'm not gay. I'd like to clear that fact up right now."

I truly apologize beforehand, but I find this an odd statement, given it is made by one called "bungrider"

Shoeshineboy's contempt for those who do not believe in God (his God?) is barely contained. I am curious if the statistics he cited earlier have a consensus among scientists - and not just "scientists" of his particular bent. Isn't it interesting that religious right has recast itself as...

Somehow I get the feeling your conclusion (1 in 10^50) is a number flowing from a pre-conceived notion about the origin of life. I doubt there is much consensus on that particular number in the scientific community. I am going to do my own research and examine the work of various...

Why is that too low of a number? Did you plug the variables into Drake's equation? Or did you have a talk with whomever gave that "outside help". If the former, please share. If the latter, you have a Sunday morning cable TV slot waiting for you down south.

Supposing they find a foxhole on Mars? Seriously, rather than a house, let's pose a more likely outcome of life and the Mars pursuit: evidence - convincing evidence let's say - of past or current microbial organisms. Then what? If I told my wife there were germs discovered on Mars she...

If the Mars question was designed to trap the athiest, I must say axeman shows it to be a question designed with not enough..........intelligence. You stated that the emergence of a house layered brick by brick with mortar is more likely to occur by chance than life on earth. Can you...

Better to ask how a house on Mars would be reconciled with the tenets of a traditional anthropomorphic theology.
