Does other brokerage firms in USA charge money for not enough transection per month like IB does?

If you want to skimp, you can always refuse the real-time data package to avoid the fee. You'll be trading blind though. You could use another data source (like free Yahoo data) to make it work, although it would be annoying.

Good points. Also, gold is portable compared to real estate which is advantageous when you need to leave your country.

Can't print gold. Does paper money have any inherent value? If so, it is only because people agree there is value. Gold has inherent properties that make it a store of value.

[IB] phone or email as soon as every execution

Probably not what you want, but it seems like you could run the IB app on your Android or iOS phone. It has got to have some sort of alert system so that when trades get filled the app would make a noise on your phone. It wouldn't be a phone call, but it would just be an app notification.

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

Never called you retarded. InfoTech is a prick for calling me demeaning when you were the one being demeaning. I call them as I see them Not ignoring any issues, just giving my perspective on IB.

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

You need to read the article again and really think about whether this developer was knowingly stealing from his employer. If the article is true, what this guy took was insignificant and would not harm Goldman Sachs. To put him in jail 7 years is unconscionable. It sounds like you would have...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

I never said that. Regardless of whether you are a business owner or not, it seems like you could use a good injection of compassion. Again, if this guy is guilty of anything (which is debatable), then Goldman Sachs is guilty of so much worse. If the article is true, then his intent was not...

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

I highly doubt you "nicely requested" anything given how you post on ET. It is nice that you admitted there are some decent employees at IB though.

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

Amazing that you are such a prick. Sig is just spouting off calling people morons left and right. And then I say I wouldn't want him as a customer and then you call me demeaning. Please shove off. I never said IB was perfect but IB's service is a major reason that I am profitable. And its...

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

Your attitude is less than ideal. If I ran a brokerage firm, I would be relieved when customers like you went elsewhere. Admittedly, I've had a handful of less than ideal experiences with customer support at IB, but in the majority of cases they have been helpful and professional. Some of the...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

After doing some more research, I was incorrect in that the term "open source" inherently implies that the source can be used for commercial purposes (example discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9004908). There are open source licenses where if you distribute a product based on that...

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

You obviously have had some bad experiences with IB. There are always customers and companies that don't jive well together and that is the case with you and IB. I've had mostly positive experiences with IB since the turn of the century.

Interactive Brokers fails Risk Management 101

Just theorizing, but it may be that IB knows its total exposure and only charges this fee to clients who are holding securities that IB is exposed to the most.

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

You are misunderstanding what I am saying. I never said he was prosecuted for that. The GS source code that he "stole", consisted of a lot of open source code that was "stolen" by GS in the first place (by stripping the attribution headers). I agree that you do not have the right to release...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

It depends on the license. You are just assuming that they are abiding by the terms of the open sources licenses while I am not assuming that. In fact, considering that people at Goldman Sachs think it is okay to purposefully delete attribution headers of open source software (as proved in...

NY Court Reinstates Ex-GS Programmer's Criminal Conviction

I think you need to brush up on how open source licenses work. Depending on the type of license, you cannot use the code for commercial uses. Goldman Sachs is a business and that qualifies as a commercial use. And *ALL* open source licenses have attribution clauses and it appears that Goldman...

    Help Wanted... Yahoo'rs Apply

Getting off topic here, but I remember the SEC went full guns blazing after this kid while ignoring much bigger financial targets. The moral of the story is that you can get away with pretty much anything if you are a financial institution (in the worst case you might have to pay a small fine...
