Yes or No:"Fully hedged portfolios are not risk free"?

    1. In case I was unclear, the answer to your question is 'no'. However, the way you have written it a no gives you a double negative... we all know what we are trying to say however. 2. Took a quick peek at the article - I would be careful about generalizing results from multivariate...

Yes or No:"Fully hedged portfolios are not risk free"?

I would argue that you can never truly fully hedge without being at zero assets and zero liabilities, which kinda takes the fun out of it all, wouldn't you agree? In any hedge that does not take the opposite position of the underlying, you always run the risk of being over or under hedged...

    Gold correction has ended

So guess where I come from :D I won't get into the whole "gold as currency argument" and start saying I don't trade gold, I trade GLD/USD which will impress noone, least of all myself. cents, if you prefer... :D Still got freakin stopped out at the low... will probably pay market...

    online dating

Did the online hookup thing back in the early 90's on AOL when the net was very new and exciting (92-94 ish). You couldn't email pictures back then (at least we had no idea how to - scanners were prohibitively expensive) and it was relatively expensive to do the IM thing at 14.4 dialup(!), so...

    Gold correction has ended

Moe Foe. Got stopped out on my trailing long 3 pips above the low. Still nicely profitable (long at 559.5), but put my stop purposely low where I thought I would have enough margin to avoid fake out moves. Should have just kept it tight and stopped out at 628. Rats! Will see...

Does the N. Korean missle test affect the Markets tommorow?

No, you thought correctly with the assumption that the world views the USD and us treasuries as a safe haven in times of potential war. Now, is it telling that the bonds sold off? And what does it tell you? Interesting information, IMHO.

    Deflation?

John Rubino gets it right in this commentary: http://safehaven.com/article-5479.htm With the last paragraph quoted as the crux of the matter: Which takes us -- as pretty much every economic debate does these days -- to the real question: If as a society we only have two ugly, seemingly...

Congratulations. If you can keep yourself going and do reasonably well, you win. Own your posessions instead of them owning you.

    Defenseless Dollar?

Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood dimm'd tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. - W. B. Yeats (edited)

Does the N. Korean missle test affect the Markets tommorow?

Look to asia tonight for guidance tomorrow. Knee jerk reaction is buy gold, buy dollar/yen, buy treasuries, but it might be a fake. I think the overnight sets the tone for tomorrow, since this is happening on the US holiday. Just my opinion.

    Defenseless Dollar?

So, are you just figuring out that there has been an inflationary bias in the system since 2000? Do you think this is accidental, or perhaps by design? If you want to go long the USD for a short term punt, by all means do. But do you think that long term fundamentals favor dollar longs...

    What Was the Bullmarket Like?

Co-worker of mine had a trust fund that he ran up from $60,000 to over a million primarily on CMGI... He blew out down to under 100k again and lost it. Needed medication. Bummer.

The Four Horsemen of the Capital Markets

The theme of excess production as inherently deflationary has been prominent for the last 3-5 years or so. Some authors think that is 'good deflation' whereby the falling price of goods support stagnant wage levels (the wal mart effect) for the poor & middle classes. [unless what you buy is...
