Code for approximating SPAN futures options margin?

Does anyone know of open-source code to calculate approximate SPAN futures options margins? I want to incorporate this into my back-testing code. I have found enough explanations of how SPAN works to write it myself if necessary but am checking first if there is other code out there. It...

    Maverick Vs Don Bright

They are saying that Bright can give the equivalent of 100% payout, or close, through bonuses or other means but are trying to avoid being too explicit about it.

Is it illegal to post short calls on my blog?

If you meant that you would suggest shorting one particular company, possibly one where you had some vested interest or conflict, that would be fishy. But I think you just meant that you would be shorting some and buying others, based on ongoing technical/ fundamental analysis or whatever...

Is it illegal to post short calls on my blog?

That is a key factor if you are giving individualized advice. See http://www.seclaw.com/docs/RIAOverview.htm If you look at some investment newsletters, you will see that the majority of them are not registered because they do not need to be (and do not want to be because doing so...

    Beware Options Express

Virtually all brokers assign your account involuntarily to a local branch if they have one in any country you move to. Suppose an Australian had an account with Options Express Australia. Then he moves to the U.S. The account will have to be assigned to Options Express USA and probably...

Posting futures Margin in other currencies

According to http://www.cmegroup.com/clearing/files/acceptable_collateral_Futures_Options_SelectForwards_NEW_guidelines.pdf futures margin can be posted in a variety of currencies (sometimes with a 5% haircut). Considering that this margin collateral can get to be quite large amounts and...

Tradestation swap rates and futures overnight fee

They used to have their swap rates available. I think they have a history of what they were in connection with their data for back-trading. If you ask on their EasyLanguage forum, someone will help.

    Beware Options Express

It is likely a requirement of Australia / New Zealand law that you sign an application which contains their own risk disclosure requirements and other details. Options Express has an office there, so they are subject to those regulatory requirements for anyone who lives there. So I think...

Is it illegal to post short calls on my blog?

What law are you referring to? It is perfectly permitted without restriction to post or sell a newsletter with trading signals etc. There are a gazillion of them and the editors do not need to be registered and are not registered, regardless of whether they charge or not. This is very well...

Is it illegal to post short calls on my blog?

I agree. Also do not respond to emails where people say, for example, "I have a small account, which trades should I take." To respond to that with suggestions would be providing individualized trading advice which is illegal unless you are registered as a adviser. Also do not help people...

Is it illegal to post short calls on my blog?

No. First amendment court cases have affirmed the right of newsletter authors and bloggers to post trades in public. Don't give any individualized advice though. Also as a practical matter, to avoid lawsuits, I would be cautious not to allege fraud or other wrongdoing or improper behavior...

    Good Canadian Futures Broker?

I believe tiered is not relevant for most traders (you need to be over 1000 trades per month). But DDT does look like better rates in all cases - you are right! Of course platform fees are extra with DDT. but included with IB.

    Good Canadian Futures Broker?

I think you may be missing that in the case of overseas markets with IB "All exchange and regulatory fees included" according to http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/p.php?f=commission

    Good Canadian Futures Broker?

IB is 85 cents per side including commission and platform. DeepDiscountTrading is 50 cents per side commission plus typically 50 cents per side for the trading platform. So IB is cheaper in that case.

Loss $1000USD when I deposit in Tradestation

True but you can still do free transfers between account types. I think it is all the same ownership and management. They are owned now by Monex of Japan. I think Gain is gone now. It was widely unpopular. TS has really good active forums once you have an account. Far better than IB...

Loss $1000USD when I deposit in Tradestation

Tradestation has some of the tightest forex quotes (and swap rates) of anyone. Just fund a FOREX account in HKD (NOT the securities account) or whatever and then afterward do a forex trade to convert some or all of it to USD, then transfer that amount to the securities account. At least...

I agree - he should have funded his account in AUD as per http://www.tradestation.com/products/forex/funding-instructions and then done an FX trade afterward to convert to USD on a limit order. What he would have to try to do now is try to reverse the whole transaction and start over...
