    Japan brokers

Sorry, don't really know what you mean by 'mainstreet mom-pop shops'. I thought you were interested in deep discount brokers. Zero is as deep as it gets. No trick.

If you do not have an address in Japan, you can't open an account here. If you lived here, you could open a margin account and trade with zero commission.

    Japanese Stocks Historical Data?

You'll have to do it symbol by symbol. Type in the symbol and click the kanji to the right of it. This is the last 250 days for Hitachi. I guess you can figure the rest out. If not, let me know. http://k-db.com/stocks/6501 You could also get the data from eSignal.

My idea on automated, algorithmic trading --- Is this feasible or am I missing someth

Large caps are not really the best for day trading. Too sluggish. But be it large, medium, or small,as long as the stock is active and with sufficient volume, it qualifies. Rather than picking from a list of stocks such as the Nikkei 225, traders usually select active stocks and create a...

Sorry to throw cold water on your observation regarding bid/ask sizes, but that can happen as often as not. I don't think you will find pro-traders who try to make heads or tails of the bids/asks. A trader at Musashi Shoken just got nailed for padding the bids...

Unless you know something that I don't, comparing the volume of the two contracts should prove fruitless. Also, you must be careful with SBI's data. They get their data from Reuters, and Reuters does not flag rollover data. So the rollover data is mixed in with actual trades. When analyzing...

For trading blocks, arbitrage, and some strategy trading, the large contract can be preferable. Some prefer to place market orders in the large contract in times of wide fluctuation. And, of course, there are times when the large contract offers a better price for the small trader.

If you have been, and still are, successful with futures, fine. It's just that the graveyards are full of those who started out trading futures without years of experience in stocks, where with less risk one can learn to trade and develop a trading plan. Given the large number of stocks that are...

Thank you for the GHU info. I'll pass it on. Limit orders only. While futures are attractive, you might want to consider starting with stocks. And after a few successful years, move on to futures. The platforms the brokers provide leave much to be desired. You might want to check out Kabu.com...

A few years ago someone I know searched for a prop firm here and found none. And I've never seen an ad for one placed by a local broker. If you are aware of a prop firm(s) here, my friend might still be interested. I wish you luck with your job hunting later this month. Do you speak Japanese...
