To all thee would-be traders out there....

I find it interesting and pleasant in this thread, and also in a number of other newly started threads, that there are so many TA fans and they are discussing TA in a friendly and constructive manner without the usual interruption of those on the other side of the fence. Can't remember ever...

To all thee would-be traders out there....

Exactly! Glad there are at least two people in the world who realize this about TA. There is just one point you made where I have a slightly different opinion, but that may be just due to wording. You said ".....nor does TA have any predictive power to assess the likelihood of a continuation or...

To all thee would-be traders out there....

Well if someone uses TA to predict that xxxx will hit $90 by the end of September, he'll certainly later be claiming that TA doesn't work. But if someone else uses TA to determine the current trend and trade in that direction, he'll be exiting his trade when the predictor is entering his!! A...

To all thee would-be traders out there....

Certainly not the only way, but for those who have the mental ability to learn true TA, and not some way out on the limb offshoot of TA, it is without a doubt the most attractive approach to trading for the private trader. By 'mental ability' I mean that just as with foreign languages, board...

To all thee would-be traders out there....

Ah, the biggest pitfall of all regarding TA. FA etc. is all about predicting future valuation. But using TA to predict where prices will be at year's end, on your dog's birthday or whenever is probably one of the greatest, and most common, misuses of TA that there is.

Hypothesis: Technical Analysis only works in the immediate short-term

In real life though I think you'll find that most of the time the big orders of which you speak are placed in the direction of the trend. So as long as you are not positioned against the trend, no problem. And for those orders that are executed against the trend, the trend itself will restrict...

Would it be possible to have the highlight-reply function that's available in the threads in the Private Threads also? Thank you for considering this.

The correct way to say "stock market trader" in Japanese?

I used to live in the same building as a number of GS traders. I asked them why they didn't go independent. They were comfortable trading according to the ways of GS, but they would be scared to death to go it on their own. I don't call that professional. I would say that 金融業界で働いていますpositions...

The correct way to say "stock market trader" in Japanese?

The OP is interested in the appropriate wording to use when stating his occupation, and not in impressing people. And just spending big bucks on people will not gain you respect in Japan. All it will do is win you friends, until the money runs out. If you ask a Japanese what his occupation is...

The correct way to say "stock market trader" in Japanese?

Take what he said with a lump of salt. Being a trader does not put you at the bottom of the social ladder. In fact there are many who are envious, such as a 28 year old Japanese guy I know who works for a big American consulting firm from 8 am to midnight or later on most days. He's dying to...

Interactive Brokers True Cost of Shorting

Off the subject, but if you buy on margin in Japan, the interest rate is around 2 to 3%. Is this high, low, or about in line with that of other countries around the world? Someone once asked me but I wasn't sure and too lazy to look it up. If someone knows offhand, thank you.

Market loss is 3x faster than market gain

There is, but by another name. It's when the cleaning lady buys a stock that's going to triple to where she'll never have to scrub another floor. Or the fund manager who envisions his name at the top of the list. And when the brokers say "This will be your last chance to buy at these prices!!"...

    Japanese daytrading for foreigners

I left out that if there is a shortage of shares for shorting, the rate for the majority of stocks is between .05 and 0.1 yen per day.

For margin trading in Japan, one broker that would be better that Kabu.com is SMBCNikko. The commission is zero and they offer all stocks that are available from JSF.
