Since TradeStation went to $250/month I've considered getting a dummie account at Tradestation... but I will not switch to TS from IB. TS does not support an API and the people I work with would rather code in C or some other fangled language with all sorts of protections added.

I've got a couple of systems that backtest anywhere from 3-12 pips/trade and hope to soon validate some of the more promising ones. What kind of slippage do you all get on CME FX futures (on the majors) and have any of you found slippage to be an issue with IB's IdealPro? I'm concerned...

Cutten, I think your argument makes sense.... so long as population and economic growth continues in a certain area - there will be a limited supply and increasing demand. To make money in RE, one would really need to make a good guess at what the long term economic outlook for an area is...

I was thinking more about this and I think this is a good point - along with the post "Population growth"... Around any city that is growing, there IS a short supply of RE near to where people work. As more people move in, prices appreciate and urban sprawl occurs to accomodate demand.

Interesting and it makes sense. How long is 'long term' here? When/where did you first come across this argument?

I've heard of this strategy done with "Rent to own" strategies. What you are basically doing is a credit swap. This beats renting outright because the 'renters' act like owners and never call u up to fix a plumbing problem.

For longer term strategies, a retail broker might still work for large sums (FXCM will absorb $15M buy/sell orders at a time), but higher frequency systems need an open market. What do you trade RedDuke?

Redduke - Good point. Right now I am using Interactive Broker's IdealPro, which is good for now. It is like an ECN, but not exactly, at least there is no dealing desk. After IB's system, there is always Currenex and other ECN's out there to access. And as you mentioned, FX Futures are available...

Because any system I might design in Forex can be scaled up to a much larger size than would be possible in any other market. So I really have to say its the liquidity.
