    IdealPro vs Futures

Thanks for your posts.. yes, I was wondering what sizes IdealPro would be most apt at taking - just as 100 lots in stocks can find liquidity, I was thinking it would be the same with fx on idealpro.. This is good news about the low slippage in the CME euro fx contracts.. I have a feeling...

Worth switching from IB to Tradestation for the platform?

Since TradeStation went to $250/month I've considered getting a dummie account at Tradestation... but I will not switch to TS from IB. TS does not support an API and the people I work with would rather code in C or some other fangled language with all sorts of protections added.

    IdealPro vs Futures

I've got a couple of systems that backtest anywhere from 3-12 pips/trade and hope to soon validate some of the more promising ones. What kind of slippage do you all get on CME FX futures (on the majors) and have any of you found slippage to be an issue with IB's IdealPro? I'm concerned...

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

Cutten, I think your argument makes sense.... so long as population and economic growth continues in a certain area - there will be a limited supply and increasing demand. To make money in RE, one would really need to make a good guess at what the long term economic outlook for an area is...

    Gold Arbitrage???

seems to me that you just hold the trades until the prices in both markets are the same

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

I was thinking more about this and I think this is a good point - along with the post "Population growth"... Around any city that is growing, there IS a short supply of RE near to where people work. As more people move in, prices appreciate and urban sprawl occurs to accomodate demand.

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

hahahaha.. sounds like you are just waiting for an 'inflation rate' thread :) It seems clear that RE is a great way to build wealth. First, it forces people to save (or build equity), next it is highly leveraged, and if done right - rental income offsets ownership costs. I do not fully...

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

Interesting and it makes sense. How long is 'long term' here? When/where did you first come across this argument?

When will the highest forclosure rate be?

I've heard of this strategy done with "Rent to own" strategies. What you are basically doing is a credit swap. This beats renting outright because the 'renters' act like owners and never call u up to fix a plumbing problem.

What is the realistic profit goal from forex?

For longer term strategies, a retail broker might still work for large sums (FXCM will absorb $15M buy/sell orders at a time), but higher frequency systems need an open market. What do you trade RedDuke?

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

First off - Happy Father's Day to all you dads... I can understand why stock prices appreciate. The underlying companies grow in terms of earnings. But if new houses are being built to meet demand, what economic principles are at work to create a long bias in housing? Granville

What is the realistic profit goal from forex?

Redduke - Good point. Right now I am using Interactive Broker's IdealPro, which is good for now. It is like an ECN, but not exactly, at least there is no dealing desk. After IB's system, there is always Currenex and other ECN's out there to access. And as you mentioned, FX Futures are available...

What is the realistic profit goal from forex?

Because any system I might design in Forex can be scaled up to a much larger size than would be possible in any other market. So I really have to say its the liquidity.

Lots of advice (some good) out there. How about hearing from some of you who have coached.... what did you get in return?

If you had to do it all over again....

What about the question: "What would we do the same?" Sure I've made plenty of mistakes. Any one of them could have taken me out of the game. However, I was certain that I could be successful. Even this now keeps me in the game:) Granville
