S&P looks good to a new high

Actually in my own case, my silence is because this and any other prediction means nothing from the standpoint of making money on a consistent basis. Back to my silence...

    T-REX Journal

You're not missing anything, his posted results are not equivalent to his posted system. He posted that he wasn't doing a stop and reverse trade at 1015, then when the market closes he not only says that he in fact took the trade long, but he also didn't follow his 3 point profit target. Indeed...

    Price Bars

Anyone have any comments on Price bars, and any of the observations / conclusions I made (good bad or ugly)? I know it's a long read but I think it's a stimulating subject to explore.

    When will the volatility return?

Volatility is bound to return. Will it be sooner or later?

    Damir's Trading Journal

Is this a typo? Assuming the exit is 9112, then my calculation is that August netted +815 points?

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

I thought something along those lines at the outset of this thread also. And damir is like the lone man in the wilderness taking tons of heat. But think of this, if his method Noisebox, which he has traded in realtime via posts in his journal (according to my calculation) since 7/25/03 is in...

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

Well damir indeed has been posting realtime in the journal for a long time it appears, so this is an added kudo to him for showing his stuff where all can see it here on ET. Damir's journal definitely hasn't received the acclaim or attention that it deserves relative to the other journals in...

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

Yeah my bad, had you mixed up with dbanks. I read through a bunch of your journal, did a couple of searches. Looks like NoiseBox is your trading entry and it appears sometimes exit method. But from what I can glean it isn't strictly a random trade entry mechanism: Would you care to...

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

It says that my statement was in support of this point in your argument with dbphoenix regarding random entries rather that in opposition to it.

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

My memory is that the qwikpop method was the basis for trades in the journal that you posted. Is this not correct? Or is the Qwikpop method a random entry method? Were those results posted in the journal posted in realtime? That to me is the lynchpin of this whole deal.

    Backtesting Question

You haven't forward tested it yet, you have out of sample tested it. Forward test it for a month or a week or until you are comfortable in RT using real $$$ or simulated fills / simulated brokerage and then compare how your system is performing to how it had been performing on the out of sample...

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

acrary posted his method a while back of comparing system testing results to random results over the same period to see how much better system results were than random to see if his system results were significant or not. It's worth looking up if you have interest in systems and system testing.

    Price Bars

I'm so glad you asked. :p For trends to be emphasized in the chart, there should be more trend bars than non-trend bars. This can be achieved in a number of ways, for instance single trend bars could be split up to make more trend bars, but this begs the question: how do you know it is a...

    Price Bars

Everyone has their own idea about what constitutes a trend. I'm open to new ideas on the subject. But let's take a look at a relatively obscure form of charting that used to be popular among floor traders back when charts were drawn by hand: point and figure. I really don't like Xs and Os...

    Price Bars

Just for clarification, a key presumption is that more bars of a certain kind indicate that those bars are being emphasized more, and vice versa, the less bars of a certain kind (trending / non-trending) that are present in a chart, the less emphasis that chart puts on those types of bars. So...

    Price Bars

Now think about tick-based charts for a bit. Tick charts aren't time bound, but rather they are price quote bound. Tick charts increment whenever a new price quote is sent by your data vendor. This could happen on a price change, or could happen whenever a trade takes place. This transmission...

    Price Bars

Ok look at a minute-based chart. There are far fewer trend (big) bars than congestion (small) bars, even though the trend bars cover more area than the congestion bars. So the answer to the question for me is, minute based charts actually deemphasize trends and tend to over emphasize congestion...

    Price Bars

I guess to answer this you have to figure out what is important about price charts. And the answer for me is: trends. The non important part of price charts for me are congestion or nontrend. Ok this sounds pretty basic and common sense but what are the implications? If trends are really...

    Price Bars

I've been thinking a lot about price bars of late. In particular the question, "what are the most important or essential components of visual trading" and "do price bars show what is important" In particular I've been thinking about intraday time charts (minute charts): 1 min, 5 min 30min...

Nearly Random Entry vs a High Probability Entry

That's a pretty heavy statement damir. I don't agree with it but I'm willing to hear you out on this subject. My personal belief is that there are edges to be had in both entries and exits with money management being a subset of the exit.
