On my retail account I use IB and half the time I try to direct route through ARCA I get a pop-up box saying Invalid Order. Sometimes I eventually fill if I try putting in the order again, sometimes they'll partially fill me, but that's just not a way to trade. IB was pretty much unable to help...

If you look over bear markets over the past 100 years you tend to have an initial dramatic sell-off (I'm not talking days or weeks I'm talking months/years) and the low from that sell-off is rarely penetrated by much and the market then rallies but it usually does take anywhere form 15-20 years...

I understand that futures accounts are not covered by SIPC or CIPF but brokerage accounts are. What is the difference between futures and brokerages accounts though at a firm like IB where you can trade both? What is the coverage? Thanks

IB accounts are insured, relax. If you're concerned about not being able to trade IF, and that's a huge IF something happens with IB, then open a backup account somewhere.
