Government to guarantee ALL inter-bank transactions?

Should have done it with BSC - just nationalised it so that the US Government becomes the counterparty. It would have stopped the collapse of confidence - doesn't matter who you deal with because the US will be the counterparty if they fail. Obviously this did not appeal to the fake 'free...

    Great Depression Chart

Therre will be an attempt to potray Bernanke and Paulson as the men of the hour who savd the world but their "contained" remarks will find their way into the history books as the pronouncements of an academic buffoon and a brainless footballer. Bush's remark about how he heard gs had got...

Mccain keeps sayin Us workers best in the world!

The purpose of McCains nomination is to lose the election so that all the stuff that will hit the fan can be blamed on the next Government, right?

Mccain keeps sayin Us workers best in the world!

I would have thought that the sample size is now too small for any statistically meaningful inferences.

Only investing during major crashes/bear markets

Time to resurrect this thread about bargain hunting in Banana Democracies that go bankrupt due to 'Crony Capitalism'. Who would have thought it would be the USA after all their lecturing of other countries over the last decade.

    Bank withdrawals & Cash hoarding

Bernanke may have to turn on the real printing presses to an unprecedented degree. In Thailand in the crisis the newspapers carried propaganda pictures of freshly delivered pallets of money behind the counter of banks that were later closed. People who had their money in banks either became...

    I'm going long here

I agree, that is part of what's driving them - the other part is that they are clueless - just think back to some of their comments on Bloomberg etc - not all of them were saying these things to halt redemptions.

Never understimate he stupidity of the idiot fund manager playing with other peoples money against a relative benchmark. These guys love a "bargain" - just ask Bill Miller.

    Hedge Industry - Bye Bye?

I think you will find a lot of investors are keeping their money in Hedge Funds because they signed agreements that give the Hedge Fund Manager discretion over when and sometimes WHETHER they can get it out.

Seems many corporations are already drawing down their credit lines. Not sure how valid historical comparisons may be in terms of valuation. How many consumer and manufacturing business models were based on profits from providing credit? How much of the last decades profitability...

Which of the above were property based collapses? Property based collapses are the ones where you see 2-3 year flatlining. 2000-2002 looked pretty flat to me and that was not even property based.

    I'm going long here

Markets don't always maintain the gains from a ST snap back from the low. IMHO the level of dislocation is such that we may see a 2-3 year flat bottom after any ST snapback.

Britain chooses Swedish model for recapitisation of all UK banks

Meanwhile despite the existance of proven (albeit Wall St unfriendly) models such as this one and the IMF Asia model Paulson is using an unproven model. This is sheer insanity, or rather putting the interests of the elite ahead of the rest of the population.

    64-bit vs 32-bit

What's the thinking on Hewleett Packerd workstations such as xw4600? HP is readily available in Thailand, Dell seems to only service corporate market via corporate channels.
