    Dell 24" LCD

have four as my primary trading setup, they are sweet! I did have to reinforce my wire shelving with 3/8" threaded steel to support the extra weight and minizmize the deflection in the shelves. I have mine set up on a quad stand, Moview, custom made a stand to support them.

    Radical Constructivism

Once you learn how to trade, the way to maximize you returns is to learn when you have achieved excess returns based upon your trading style, and then exit your positions when you have hit those returns. It's akin to deciding when to countertrade you trading strategy. I have made a ton of...

    Radical Constructivism

Don't underestimate the importance of the mental aspect of this game. The proper mindset allows you to follow through with big trades and keep you on plan when times get tough. I will be ordering some information from the ari, thanks to the original poster for bringing to light. Without...

The Real Cost of being a Proprietary Equity Trader

That's simple, there's not enough money in futures for them. They make more money off of stock commissions than they would off of futures. I would speculate that his answer though will be something like this: Futures is a zero sum game, Stocks are not. Why are stocks not a zero sum game...

    Who's the Better Trader?

Depends, whether or not the trader learned from his mistakes. I had a 50%bdrawdown overnight, once, it taught me a lot about risk! It was a very important learning experience for me, and ultimately made me a better trader. I am a very consistent, and profitable trader. I still say that...

    Who's the Better Trader?

You can't tell who's the better trader based upon just one year of data. Maybe one was luckier than the other. The best traders are the ones who get consistent results, IMO. They hit alot of singles, rarely strike out, and once in a while hit one out of the park. They are the ones that will...

Don's openings and more for 2005

My bad day was yesterday, got long the oils, with good size, and 4 minutes after the open my computer locked up and took another 6 minutes or so to get back up and running. At that point, my losers were down 9k or so. Ended up the day losing 12k(I tried so hard to manage those positions but...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Trade the pairs intraday, don't carry them, and certainly don't become an investor...alot of pain going out, and you are certain too get out too soon when they come in. I would focus more on your indes arb program, I think there might be something there. Good trading to you, chiguy!

The treacherous path to $200k a year

what trading style is most profitable

For new traders, I think that short term trading is the best way to go. You are able to sample often enough that you can get through the learning curve, learn about the markets, and cycle your capital. Once successful, you just expand your holding periods and go for larger gains.

    Altucher

You don't need to beat the index to succeed as a trader, in fact, as a trader, I am going after returns.....period. I take short term, highly leveraged trades with the goal of closing out at a profit. The only time I concern myself with beating an index is if I am going to be in the market for...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Yeh...it's all luck. I have been trading profitably for five years, but it's all luck. Funny thing about luck, I find the harder I work, the luckier I get! (I typically put in 8 hours of trading and prep, and then another 4 hours of research every day, weekends included) I have several...

What is the best way to reduce the commission costs

I agree that 10k in savings per month is significant and should be gotten if it is there to get, but please tell that you are not a trader who would accept guaranteed underperformance by investing in a mutual fund? Investing in SPY, and collecting the DIV is a much better strategy than that...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Openings were tough this month, if it weren't for that one day, the strategy wouldn't have been worth much. Lescor is right, with VOL coming down, the strategy is experiencing diminishing returns. Who knows where it will go. Worse case scenario, it becomes a strategy you pull out once in a...

    Trader P/L 2005

No need to do that. You posted your results, if that's your performance, than that's your performance....no need to go any further. I think it is hard for some to believe that there are traders out there who are making some serious coin, and they are envious, that's why they bash...

Running Four Monitors with SLI Video Cards

Depending on what you are doing, your video cards make a tremendous difference in performance. I have 10 machines for trading, I tried to cut corners once, will never do it again. For your trading machines, you want the best you can afford. That means the best of everything, a good video card...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but no way those monitors go for $250 in used condition! They are worth about a buck and a half at the most, add another buck and a half for the machine and you come up with around $450.

    Dual Monitor Trading System $750

I am 34, been trading professionally for 5 years. I work so hard because I have seen too many one hit wonders, and former "good" traders fall by the wayside(I came close to being one myself). I do not want to meet a similar fate, The only way to avoid that is to constantly research and...
