Unfortunately I'm not very technically savvy or I'd do all of that.

I actually had phone login setup on Gmail AFTER the incident and somehow they logged right back in. This was after all malware had been removed, password changed, and mobile verification instituted. I'm thinking maybe they either swiped the universal codes on their previous login just in case...

    Loaning stocks with your broker?

If your stocks were purchased in a margin account you likely wont even know your broker borrowed them from you. Only cash accounts are actually asked, but honestly, if you bought the stocks based on solid analysis why would it matter? You get the extra incentive of interest on those shares and...

    Loaning stocks with your broker?

Not quite sure what you're on about tbh. Is short selling a new concept to you? Short sellers not only keep a fair market value on prices but also help keep the market liquid.

I had a system restore point. The malware not only corrupted that point but corrupted the system files making a factory restore impossible.

    Loaning stocks with your broker?

You get a piece of the borrow rates on hard to borrow stocks that your brokerage needs to borrow from you on stocks you already own anyways. Pitfalls maybe you help in driving down the price on a stock you own as short sellers use your stock to drive down the share value.

Are you inferring that a system be backed up with a restore point (or back up system files etc?), then do a clean install (restore to factory condition), and then restore the backup. Couldn't the backed up files contain any malware or files you are doing the clean install to remove, thus putting...

    Loaning stocks with your broker?

Are you referring to brokerages lending your shares to short sellers? This is pretty standard practice.

Interesting. Guess I'll just go the old fashioned route and use pen and paper.

Words of wisdom that give you perspective in your trading.

I already make money. I already have a system. I'm already a profitable trader. Not quite sure how so many in this thread seem to keep assuming I asked because I somehow think quotes are the missing component to making money in trading. I specifically stated I like to reflect on words of wisdom...

This looks promising. Anybody have thoughts on password managers? This one is touted as the best across multiple tech sites. Its $75 for 3 years. https://www.keepersecurity.com/

You know we live in a fast food society now where technology makes for every and any conceivable convenience, and this was one of them. Just go to any site and log right in easily with autofill. Google is so huge I just assumed they were well ahead of the curb on stuff like this. This was an eye...

Yeah Agreed, Actually I ran Spybot, Malware Bytes and Norton 360 on the computer after it was infected and all of them said there was no virus whatsoever. Also ran them all in Safe Boot mode. This was an HP computer straight from Walmart with some individual upgrades like SSD and Ram

Ya mine was 9 characters mixed upper lower letters numbers and special characters. Deleted all passwords from browser already. Have to go back to when I was a kid and had to remember a hundred phone numbers by heart because cell phones didn't exist.

I like the story of Jesse Livermore. Really a pretty fascinating life story. Tragic ending for both him, his son, and his grandson.

That's what I said before. It is physically unplugged from all ports and connections. It's just sitting in the metal casing. So unless they've managed to make computer viruses physically airborne it would be impossible to touch it in the hard drive.

No I mean the hard drive is physically disconnected just sitting inside my computer. Were I to get infected that bad again I'd simply disconnect the SSD and reconnect the hard drive and take the SSD to be wiped. However, an occasional backup of current system and files would not be remiss.

Yeah I was stupid. I actually installed a new 1TB SSD right after I purchased and switched th BIOS to the SSD and made the original hard drive the secondary. I migrated the entire OS using Acronis so, at that point, I could have easily just unplugged the hard drive as a backup. Instead I...
