SPX, XSP, XEO, RUT for starters... maybe NDX (not sure and too lazy to check)

    synthetic stock

nazzdak is very much correct. The synthetics are completely useless in this case. Being short strangle/straddle eats up alot of margin because both shorts are naked, also these strategies are mostly a gamma scalping tool and I doubt that is what you are looking for judging by your post. You...

can you trade options after hours?..at least 4-4:15pm EST?

technically its not after hour since the official trading hours are 9h30-16h15 estern time (8h30-15h15 central). Its just that an order expires at 16h15 and not 16h like stocks.

    Obama's plans- effects on markets?

I think it's complete B.S. The only thing he will do is move prop trading activities to Canada and offshore. That certainly wouldn't stop the big banks, they just wouldn't pay income tax on their prop trading, it would go "off balance" and be in the notes at the end of their financial statements

any of U cats trade OEX or SPX weekly options?

1- I would say XEO, on average I'd say 1500-2000 contracts per month. There are a few reasons for this: A) they have 5 points increment and SPX usually 25. B) Like I said I hate those smurf size orders and there are some on SPX. C) The XEO is generally less volatile. D) Its easier to get fills...

any of U cats trade OEX or SPX weekly options?

Yes it is a large chunk although usually I go for even larger (500 or more), I don't know if its still the case but I used to be the biggest trader on the XEO weekly's. You cannot leg into such a position, you send it as a spread and either the MM takes it or he doesn't. Either way you are...

any of U cats trade OEX or SPX weekly options?

I do, I trade both the SPX and XEO weeklys. For example this week I have a 340 contracts vertical spread on the XEO. They really do not have that much liquidity so choose your strikes very carefully because ajusting positions is not easy. The main thing I like with these is that you get to deal...

Trading credit spread - example question

It's just a probability table with confidence intervals. If you take the % of the stock being at more than 5$ on expiry multiplied by what you would gain if it were to and substract the % that its gonna end below 5$ multiplied by what you could loose you get the e(x): ex: 3200$*0.18 -...

Trading credit spread - example question

I haven't checked the exact quotes but your calculations are correct. You are making a directional trade by doing that, as long as it is what you wish to do its fine. I say that because you are not playing the probabilities, such a trade as a negative expected return so a bad trade if you have...

    Wealthy Option Traders

Let me tell you a little story that is a variation of a basic story that is told in most business schools: Let's say you have a trader that somehow sells ATM puts 10 times in a row. Lets say they are 1 year european options. There is only 2 outcomes possible in such a case: either its in the...

    Short options at expiration?

You can't hold past thursday unless you roll over to a further expiry. It's a crappy trade because it takes too much margin: the chances you will make those 10$ by thursday is 0,00000000001% or something like that

    Short options at expiration?

well there are only 2 ways this is gonna end: 1) you sell 100 shares of spy at 102 or 2) you buy to close the call you sold, either way if you do not own the 100 spy already you are loosing 8$*100=800$ there is a 3rd choice but not recommended: you roll the option further out, you buy the one...

    Short options at expiration?

basic: you actually get long the stock at strike price (for short put) or short stock (for short call). There are some cash settled options but considering the level of the question, I'm not gonna bother...
