Global warming research suppressed due to intolerance of scepticism

All this gloom and doom about global warming when it is the next ice-age like the ones 12000 and 20000 years ago that will kill off more the half the planets population by starvation. I live on the Tennessee Georgia border where the entire landscape is carved out from glacier flows during the...

Does Linux in all its flavors really suck?

I have been trying many different linux distributions for the last 10 years. I have thrown out stacks of linux install disk trying to find an adequate distribution. Recently I tried OpenSuse 13.1, Linux Mint 16, and PCLinuxOS 2013.12. There is always some issue that quickly ends my use of a...

Advice on Buying New Monitors (Sore Eyes)

I always wear Ray-Ban ambermatic sunglasses when I am using computer monitors. This for me has for years eliminated the eye fatigue and strain problems I was having when I started using computers with monitors.

    Broker Ratings and Reviews?

For sure, you can not count on getting the truth from reading broker and software ads. If you can not have open debate and review, what do you have? I know exactly what Baron is saying about complaints from advertisers saying they are going to withdraw their ads if negative reviews are not...

    Trading from Puerto Rico

I lived there for 4 years. People lived in cardboard boxes or anything else they can find to sleep in. I lived most of that time within a military base with MP at all gates. The base was a very nice safe place; However, outside of the base was the pits. Any house worth anything was made out of...

I believe a deflationary depression will occur within 3 years; how to protect assets?

I worry about inflation but not deflation. I think deflation would be a good thing for me. Governments sell inflation as a good thing for the economy when in reality inflation is only good for debtors. I would want to hold cash going into a deflationary depression and buy real assets when I felt...

Asking for new security device at IB?

IB technical support and development group spent days of their time and solved the problem I was having with not being able to login to my account management using the gold card+. Ib's TAC group has been very supportive and helpful during the 14 years I have had an account at IB. I have now cut...

TWS on Linux - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Canuck, Did you install Java from the Sun/Oracle website? Did you install the JRE or did you stay with the JDK you had previously installed through package management. I have installed and tried many different linux distributions over a number of years and have always found they were not...

Asking for new security device at IB?

I do not think it is very unlikely the card would get damaged in the mailing envelope and packaging my card arrived in. My gold + card has functionality issues and it for sure was not damaged in shipment. The problems were built into the card.

Rig won't boot? Strange errors? Check mobo battery.

Most of the time I do not lose my bios settings if I am fast enough on changing out the battery. I have the new battery in my fingers next to the battery holder, try to get the old battery out and the new battery into the battery holder as fast as I can. I write the date of installation on the...

Asking for new security device at IB?

If I could login with my digital gold card+through IB's website, the card would be a keeper. The lack of the cards stiffness and problems with the unintended triggering of buttons from the cards back side is a easy fix for me with about an hours work. I think it would function for me as well as...

Asking for new security device at IB?

I have been using a platinum login token since they were first issued 7 years ago. It has always worked great, easy to use, with a combination of numerical characters and the letters of the alphabet. The platinum token is about 13 times more secure compared to the replacement digital gold card+...

Lightspeed Trading & Visionary Trading charged

Another witch hunt being used by the USA government to go after, charge, fine and extort money out of those of their choosing while at the same time looking the other way and not charging the really big violators. Many market makers have engaged in a similar activity for generations. But, I...

    8949

Maybe Captools/Net. It is not cheap ($1200 per year for first year and $600 per year for annual renewal). I have been using Captools for Windows (an earlier version of the software but still works great for my needs) for 14 years. This is great software but too expensive for me to upgrade to the...

I am still using a 1024 x 768 screen resolution and ET pages mostly fit and look great. I think a lot of this is a function of the browser settings.

    don't have to mail 8949?

You are not required to fill out and send to IRS 8949 for covered transactions when box 6b is checked by broker on 1099-B except for wash sales or when broker has an error in the reported cost basis. For this year I do not have to fill out any forms 8949 or report any individual transactions on...
