My over 6-year trading experience in a nutshell

To some extent the same competition existed when Asia blew up in 97, ltcm in 98, the boom in 99 to 2000, the crash in 2001, the quant volatility in 07, the collapse in 2008, and the knight blow up last year. There were massive edges during these events, and there are small edges available every...

HFT robots seeing orders before the exchange ?

For guys that only trade <500 shares on average per trade the abusive hft's aren't going to be much of a problem. It's when you want multiple thousands that the hft's pull because they see your order hitting the queue so they move up a level. Say XYZ is showing 5k offered and it's made up of...

HFT robots seeing orders before the exchange ?

Anyone still using "lit" orders to remove liquidity is going to get gamed by hft. They can pull their quotes faster than you can execute. There is a simple solution to this if your broker offers it...dark books and/or ioc orders. I switched everything over to PDQ (a darkbook smart router)...

    Anyone use E-Signal?

You provide free intraday data? On your website I only see external pay services.

How to get the opening price?

When you send a mkt opg for a NY stock, you will get the open print from the specialist. As you can see there is an "open" print on the other exchanges too, but that is not where your order went.

I would like to discuss averaging down

Fact based on what? Have you backtested it, or just read it somewhere? In 1999 shorting all time highs was a death wish. In today's market the hft's (and me) are happy to add supply to the retail traders that have buy stops based on TA...with exception to momo stocks like AAPL GOOG LNKD etc.

I would like to discuss averaging down

Well that's quite an analysis. Straight out of the textbook. I can see why we disagree on things. If you can make a living trading like that then kudos. Being self taught allowed me to focus on finding a suitable style without preconceived ideas of what trading really is. Price, volume...

I would like to discuss averaging down

Fine I'll bite. Here's one trade from this morning. I thought it could be done around 31, but maybe go to 32. How would you have handled the trade?

I would like to discuss averaging down

Yep, 15 years of pure luck here. If that's the case I'll take it over skill any day :D

I would like to discuss averaging down

Here in lies one of the most common rookie mistakes in my opinion. Why trade some choppy index garbage like the above chart, when charts like below give daily opportunities (all from this past week)? You make one good trade a day and you feed your family and fund your retirement. picture...

    Money laundering via HFT

You can read about these types of trades in the book Street Freak. It's mainly hedge funds making large directional or arb plays via a big broker who provides the shares.

I would like to discuss averaging down

I agree and meant to comment on this. Everyone has their own style of building positions, but often times with RTM you take some heat then you are back to break even. Typically this is the point where I double up, while the average losing trader would start to cover. So, I completely support...
