Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

My mistake - i had forgotten about a dinner commitment earlier in the day. I plan to codify the whole thing and post the details. That's the primary objective of this thread. I hope to start making progress over the next 1 to 2 days

Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

I've stated many times that I cannot and have not been able to make sense of JH's methodology. My donation to this project is to get to the specifics and test what comes out of it. I have no idea what will come of it - but learning and experimenting is always worthwhile, even if not...

Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

This endeavor is generating more PMs than anything I've seen in a long time :) Thanks to my co-moderator for helping with keeping it clean. Jack has now produced the initial writeup. I still don't have a handle on the details, and will post a list of things I'd like to see further...

Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

Trader666: I think that's also a very good idea. But let's not intermingle PVT and the "0 - 7 system". If you like, you can start another thread and posts your collective results in that. I'll try to moderate that one as well, or maybe my co-moderator can assist. I would really prefer to...

Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

Trading is a bit hectic today, so i'll spend time on this after the close. Here are my thoughts: I'd like the initial focus to be clarification of all details in JH PVT system. Definition of all terms (in a mathematical sense), definition of all rules etc. Jack started addressing my questions...

    Trader28 informational thread

Great news Jack! I've set up the thread as previously committed. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1976324#post1976324 I suggest you copy the content above over (to keep your name associated with it). I have a couple of questions I'd like to understand: 1. could...

Jack Hershey PVT System Testing (moderated)

Forum dedicated to analysis and testing of Jack's PVT System. To avoid all the usual banter associated with JH threads, I've agreed to heavily moderate this thread. Only content related to PVT, testing of PVT or clarification of PVT details are allowed. Let's make this productive. I think...

    Trader28 informational thread

I'm still open to keeping a forum under Strategy Trading exclusively focused to systems, code and technical discussions. I will remove everything unrelated. I recently extended this offer to Jack H. but he declined. I'm open to keeping it general, if there is an interest.

    Trading and Statistics

If you want to get a bit more sophisticated, there is always the field of "distribution-free" statistics. Here's a reasonable reference: http://www.amazon.com/Distribution-Free-Statistical-Monographs-Statistics-Probability/dp/0412552604/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214608167&sr=8-2

I happen to agree with this observation. Also, there is nothing wrong with using the calculations such as stdev() etc. They still have meaning, just don't use the strict interpretation from normal distributions.

    Trader28 informational thread

I'm game: Just a few weeks ago, I offered this to Jack Hershey with the promise to keep the forum clean. All he would have to do, was to post clear rules and some of us would jointly test and validate. JHdeclined to participate. I'm certainly open to do this in a broader context, if there is...

    Prop Traders - Supplemental Income

Move the the west coast or silicon valley specifically. Good IT/Software folks can make 100k+ easily and no one expect you at the office until about 10 am. So you can trade the first 2-3 hours and the close conveniently is right during the lunch hour. Get yourself a broadband wireless...

    TWS unstable since Thurs 6/19

Live on 882, and testing on 884. 882 is rock solid, 884 ran fine today (on Java 1.5)

    TWS unstable since Thurs 6/19

not sure if this helps you, but in my experience TWS runs a lot better on Java 1.5, as opposed to the newer 1.6

    Block box trading

To "prove" anything, you'll need both an extensive back-test, plus a live forward test and be able to explain why they deviate at times. From personal experience, I can tell you that it's hard getting an aggressive intraday strategy to match backtest, no matter assumptions for slip...

The most important rule(s ) for intraday trading success

I'm not sure any of those 5 points are relevant to trading success. Here are mine: Develop a methodology with a solid, however small, statical edge. Work hard to apply it to as many stocks and markets as possible. The most successful intraday traders I know, almost all do large number of...

    Annual profit to drawdown ratio

In my experience, for long term systems: if you can get the average annual return divided by max DD greater than 1, you're doing well. This will have to be measured over a 10 year period or longer.

Poll: Is it humanly possible to capture 3x ATR everday?

It's a pity that Jack declined the invitation to document his approach in a moderated forum. I would certainly have liked to make sense of his methodology. But that appears to be how the saga must continue ...

Poll: Is it humanly possible to capture 3x ATR everday?

So true. I believe the "agreement" Jack was referring to was for him to stay away. He has been banned several times under different aliases already

Poll: Is it humanly possible to capture 3x ATR everday?

That's disappointing - I can only guess why you choose not to describe your methodology in any testable detail. I had even offered a moderated forum where you/we could progress without any detractors. So with the brains of the methodology unwilling to discuss it in any substantive depth...
