I agree with bone's two points. I have a pretty extensive library of trading books but the majority are just collecting dust. You may be able to develop a strategy based on ideas presented a book you read, so I'm not saying don't read anything, but nothing beats real-world experience and...

As Brandonf was saying, there is definitely strength in numbers. Even if it wasn't a union in the traditional sense, just getting a large enough group of traders together as a membership organization could probably realize some significant savings in group rates for things like insurance...
