    Why favorable R:R?

Rabbitone, I made no mention of timeframe. I simply said that as long as risk&reward isn't at an impractical ratio, it's irrelevant, and that what matters is whether the trading strategy is profitable. +ev has nothing to do with statistics, it's a mathematical edge, and it is required. It's not...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Whether the market is correct or not is not my concern. I simply take advantage of the tug of war between buyers and sellers.

I blew up , feels so bad

I'd think a poor business plan is the most likely reason for a failure.

    parallels b/w poker & trading

Your hand is only important in how it compares to your opponent's likely range, and becomes less important the more you can outmanoeuvre them.

    Fibonacci Retracement Trading

That's my point - the markets are made up of people, and these people have to pick a number. People tend to think alike and like numbers that feel right (pivots, trendlines etc), so over a large sample the same number will often arise, giving significance to all of these technical points.

How long did it take for profitability?

Depends on the timeframe. It's fine for longer term trading, but paper trading won't be able to replicate the results of scalping. Also, it's better to have money on the line. Better learning with a few thousand than paper money. As someone else said, a high IQ isn't necessary, and most with...

    Why favorable R:R?

This statement makes no sense to me. If a return is restricted, it's by poor trading, not the risk to reward. Good returns can be achieved at all sorts of ratios, it comes down to the trader.

    Fibonacci Retracement Trading

It's just one of the many self-fulfilling prohecies of the market.

How long did it take for profitability?

There's a huge difference between a +ev trader and a winner. It's extremely unlikely a "winner from the start" was actually a +ev trader, they just hit positive variance early on and become profitable before giving it back.

    Sorry, but you killed yourself.

    Why favorable R:R?

If you practice sensbile capital management, the risk to reward is irrelevent. All that matters is that the trade is +ev and appropriately sized.

Seperate PC for Trading and Other

I don't think it's overkill. It's a small cost to avoid a potential serious pain in the arse. There's also the comfort in not having to be overly paranoid about every little process running on the computer.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

My reply is that it is not a statistical fact that a +ev bettor (whether in traditional gambling or the markets) will win over the longterm. There is no certainty. I was certainly a +ev poker player, but I had what at the time was an unrivaled losing run at SNGs (a type of poker game). Many were...

Please recommend good hardware system for daytrading?

I agree about need a fast connection, but it's poor advice to suggest the latest technology is needed. Trading software etc is not demanding. Quad cores? Nothing of the sort. A budget C2D is more than enough for most. GBs of memory? 2gb for XP and 4 for Vista is easily more than most need...

Please recommend good hardware system for daytrading?

I'm sorry but this is rubbish. Few uses of a computer require a good GPU, and trading is certainly not one of them. Few traders need anything more than mid-range, if that.

New Dell 3400 with dual NVS 290 cards - good enough?

Precisely. Unless you're doing heavy number crunching or playing games, mediocre specs will do.

    Pictures of your trading stations

I like three in portrait mode. Portrait mode keeps the screens in a better field of view, as cubes are too high while flat is too wide. Just my preference.

How many monitors do you use while doing daytrading?

That's not keeping it simple unless you only have 1-2 things open. Three monitors is comfortable, it allows me to have everything open without overlapping, and keeps the 6-9 charts nice and large.

Types of traders here..... where do you stand??? Dare to find out?

Percentage is irrelevent. Good capital management is necessary to survive the longrun, but even more essential is to simply make +ev trades, i.e. to have an edge. Everyone will say they have an edge, but most don't actually know what that even means.

Landing your plane in the Hudson River

Most people can probably be conditioned to remain calm under pressure, after all it is required in many jobs. Pilots, soldiers, firefighters, police, paramedics, doctors, traders etc. Most people will crack at some point, but usually due to prolonged exposure to high levels of stress rather than...
