Niederhoffer thinks "follow the trend" sucks

Niederhoffer made money selling options. This will produce a steady stream of small profits (since most options expire worthless) BUT from time to time, (very) large losses. There is a good article on Niederhoffer and Taleb and their contrasting strategies in the New Yorker a few years ago, it...

MT4 data feed to Excel problem

I use MT4 for futures and stock price data, and feed this live to an Excel worksheet via DDE. I know this is ancient technology but it works. However, now, for some reason, although this works fine on my laptop, on the desktop PC, excel just hangs when I select update links. Identical...

    "Real Winners Are Equity Traders"

Here's a quote from a great stock trader.. "It never was my thinking that made the big money for me. It always was my sitting. Got that? My sitting tight! It is no trick at all to be right on the market. You always find lots of early bulls in bull markets and early bears in bear markets. I've...

    "Real Winners Are Equity Traders"

I may be wrong, but I believe that the percentage of retail FX traders making a consistent profit is miniscule.

Why is day trading considered dangerous?

It rather depends on what you mean by 'safe'. Day trading may not suit a large number of individuals, who over the long term would probably get better returns from an index tracker (for example). If on the other hand, a trader can make consistent profits from day trading, then it could be...

PnL Measure ... Points or Dollars, which do you quote

I prefer basis points (BPS). That way, trades in any instrument can be compared. At the moment, 100 BPS on the ES equates to about 21 points, whist on the Dax it's more like 110.

Most Difficult Market To Trade ?

I think it alll depends on the trader's own personality. The important thing is to find a market or markets which suit your personality. For some this will be Forex, others will do better trading stocks or index futures. The trouble is, the process of finding the 'right' market(s) to trade, and...
