WARNING for anyone thinking of trading Tues.March 18th WARNING

You might be right. But if 75 bps or 100bps & tanks, then it will probably recover shortly afterwards, just when retail people are done liquidating.

IB smart route acted "dumb"; please explain!!

On the stock I was trading, the bid suddenly jumped by about $.30 (to $20.04) with a bid size of 300 shares on NYSE. I quickly placed an order to sell with the smart route 300 shares, and the order wouldn't go through. I noticed it was routed to Island mysteriously--as the bid was on NYSE, and...

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

Let me clarify my question. See the following link which provides a diagram of the "Interactive Brokers Group" corporate structure: http://investors.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/about/aboutIR.php?ib_entity=ir. As you can see "Timber Hill LLC" and Interactive Brokers LLC" are two totally...

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

Def, was I not clear (enough)? I'm taking for granted the Chinese wall claim regarding Timber Hill, and I'm asking about "Interactive Brokers LLC." itself, who, according to the Nasdaq, A) does market making services independent of Timber Hill, B) may have even double the volume of Timber Hill...

    Buying DRL on dips

Today, DRL closed at $19.62, about a 9% gain in 4 days from the $18.02 price (had I called the bottom, it would have added another 4% or so).

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

If one end is a customer (albeit a customer of a broker who is a MM) & the other end is a market maker, it gives credit only once--for the latter alone.

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

There are many advantages of IB, and I just hope there would be someone to contest the implications of this information. IB, why are you being silent? Are you taking the other end of the trades under IB LLC, but didn't tell us for fear of provoking the wrong people on this board? If you do take...

    Buying DRL on dips

Yesterday there were some liquidations. Today, the price is $18.75. Moral of the story: buy DRL on dips.

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

JackR, GTC, and others, are you ready for this one? Just called up the Nasdaq number: 212-401-8700. They told me that the volume shown for the MM's has NOTHING to do with customer volume that are filled elsewhere; rather it ONLY has to do with where the MM's are YES taking the other end of...

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

This is what it says in the URL: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/Trader.aspx?id=MPVolume It involves pushing Market Statistics, then Market Maker volume, then one enters the stock symbol (which they call the "issue symobl")

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

I didn't think of that possibility, and I hope you are right, but as a customer, all my trades with this stock go on NYSE, not on NASDAQ. Also, the list provides market maker volume, not broker volume, which makes me wonder.

"IB LLC" more busy than Timberhill w/ "counterparty" market making?

I leave room for IB to explain themselves, but this is a tough one. I was going with the understanding that IB is NOT involved in market making themselves, rather Timber Hill does the market making, and that there is a Chinese wall between the customer orders & the market making (as Thomas...

MM's trading activity: is intraday his mainstay?

It's clear by me that Market Makers try to do a lot of stuff at the expense of the retail trader in intraday trading, but is it safe to say that by the next day they would rather put their energy elsewhere? I.e. do they usually try to be "net neutral" by the next trading day?

    Help me pick a stock!

It's okay to challenge me. A) They were never in the business of making subprime loans. B) The latter point creates a certain amount of dead money, but their live money makes up for it. They used to have other dead money as well, as they had many break-even loans in their portfolio; however...

    Help me pick a stock!

DRL: low risk/high return. Excellent fundamentals, immunity from subprime problems, benefiting with each interest rate cut, and its now at the bottom of the trading range. Anyone on the thread challenge this?

    Buying DRL on dips

Now, a month later, DRL is down to $18.04, which I believe will almost inevitably recover within days. See again DRL's track record of recovering on the dips & the speed in which it happens (including the pre-mentioned February recovery). To add icing to the cake: A) Since my February...

    Chronology of trades throughout day

With my previous broker a few years ago, they offered a chronology of the trades, which included the time & size of each trade throughout the day, with which exchange (and I believe also identified if your counterparty was a MM). With my current brokers, I'm not offered this service. Is...
