    Binhead - "Mission Accomplished!"

So his whole plan was to send the US financial institutions into disarray with his attack. More than 6 years later... ..."Mission Accomplished!"

I don't know. It's not that comforting that IBKR is down 19% on the day.

    Plunge Protection Team at work

It's ok. Even though gas and a gallon of milk will soon be $5, at least the Fed is out there defending SPX 1300. I don't care if we get $20 gas and milk. If our stock market doesn't break SPX 1250, it's well worth it. Hooray Bernanke. You avoided recession.

It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma... ...and it is called the United States of America?

US has a Teflon market & economy?

It fascinates me that for several months now foreign markets around the world have had 4-6% down days on fears of US economic weakness... ...and yet the US (ground freaking zero) itself can't even muster it's own 4% down day. Any explanation for it besides the continual devaluation of our...

Can someone please explain the logic behind today's events?

The odds for a rate cut have fallen with this action by the Fed. That is providing a little stability and bounce to the dollar.

I'm starting to think that < 1 % of people on elitetrader are actually profitable

Simply look at when most of the posters on here were registered. There are countless reasons people reregister or leave ET, but for the most part, it is probably because they are new or no longer trading.

Futures and Futures Options - Question about settlement prices for March 21 (holiday)

Quadruple witching this Friday March 21 is occuring on Good Friday, a market holiday. So I wanted to get verification on when the settlement prices will take place. On normal quadruple witching days, for the ES, the settlement price will be the opening S&P index price for Friday morning...

    TSRA Squeeze

Let me explain. With this type of chart, you may get an oversold bounce. Simply because it bounces, does not make it a short squeeze. Almost every short in this stock would be profitable. If there is any type of "squeeze" going on, it is of the long variety.

    IB - No Data ?

I've never had an outage that lasted this long. Most of the time, when others have complained, my system has always been fine. This outage has been one of the longest I can remember.

    recession--this time is different

That is exactly right. Most past recessions have been caused by tightening of monetary policy. Just look at how much Greenspan raised rates at the end of the dot com economy era. As a result, loosening of monetary policy has had a substantial reversing effect in getting us back out of the...

IB Tax Forms: IRC Section 1256 vs 1099-B

Well, it must be late at night as I just found the answer to my question. The IRC Section 1256 includes futures and futures options. But the 1099-B only includes futures. Still a little confusing to me. Anyone know why IRC Section 1256 and 1099-B are reported differently?

IB Tax Forms: IRC Section 1256 vs 1099-B

Hoping someone can shed some light on the 2 tax forms for futures traders. IB does a good job with IRC Section 1256 summarizing all futures transactions. But I'm not clear on how they get the amounts for box 8 and 11 on Form 1099-B or why a 1099-B is even needed for futures traders. It...

    Selling OTM just before expiration

Selling OTM options the day of expiration is not the best way to take advantage of time decay. Also, look at how much money you are putting at risk for the $300-400 return.
