    As far as I know the Fed has not announced any direct selling, so it will take many years for the balance sheet to shrink waiting for the bonds to mauture. But of course they could potentially make the decision to start selling.

    SPY lost 56% during the financial crisis not including dividends. Quite cruel. However, two months later the loss had shrunk to -41%. The financial crisis has been described as a 1 in 100 year event. Maybe we should consider buying this market when it crosses -30%?

    You have USD 1.000.000. You short sell stocks for USD 1.000.000. You buy other stocks for USD 2.000.000. Do you need to borrow USD 1.000.000 and pay interest or can you use the USD 1.000.000 proceeds from the stocks sold short? For instance at IB.
