Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

Good series guys. I'm hanging out till mid-2012 and going to build one based on the i7-3770 when it comes out. A belated Xmas present from the wife :)

    Interactive Brokers data quality

I'm with kostia .... I don't believe this. And to be honest esignal data can be faulty because, at least in the past it used to suffer lag under fast market conditions. I have compared a lot of charts based on ib 5 sec data with exchange data and yet to see such issues. The 5 second data is...

85 billion a year hit to US economy

It aint Obama. Bush started it. Other governments, left or right, love it too. The only thing politicians seem to like more is giving themselves pay rises.

    Interactive Brokers data quality

Everyone has it. Live data packets are sent a maximum of once per 100ms (used to be the rate, might have changed) and contain the last price in that period. If there is a price within that 100ms that exceeds your bar/swing high then you'll miss it. The advantage is that you don't get...

    China Syndrome aka Economic Meltdown

Australia is the same. Its on the end of a supply chain with the US and Europe on the other end and China in the middle. Local politicians keep congratulating themselves on how well they ran the economy while the reality is that they were no better than any others - the Chinese just kept...

    Sierra Charts / MultiCharts

It is a lot more likely to be a feed issue than a charting issue, especially if rythmic have different feed options. Also, possibly one broker is entirely off one server and another off a different one so one persons good experience might not guide you. I presume you're using something like...

CPU usage haywired when laptop power unplugged

Although all the posters have good ideas the ones suggesting you check your power profile are most likely on the money. Your CPU could be at 100% but only running at 20% of its maximum speed. To investigate google cpu-z and download it ... it will show you both your processors maximum and...

    stops not hidden at IB?

OK. I trade with IB. All my close stops reside on my machine (sierrachart with dlls). My disaster stops are with ib. I have had the same experience that you did, more than once, of having my privately held stop triggered. So yours get hit on ib's server; mine get hit on my server...

    stops not hidden at IB?

IB won't be selling your orders or hitting your stops. It's just not in their interest. What was suggested on the first page does seem reasonable but would also give you a really nice argument for scaling into your position. Surely 50k to start with then scaling in to take advantage of any...

Trading through IB Webtrader on a Kindle or Nook

It works well on the android phones. I think the issue might be processing power though ... if something is optimized for book reading and battery life then it probably isn't a good trading choice. Frankly I won't trade with less than 2 widescreens in front of me.

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

Regarding filling SSD's up ... you don't need to if you are disciplined about disk management. I'm still using an old 32G one with no issues on W7x64 but I run core OS and Programs on the SSD, data on a ramdisk or a hard disk and non core programs on a hard disk. It does require planning though.

    Trend Following-Trend Commandments

Although it is a reactive strategy - stop in and stop out when the market moves frequently - it is based on a prediction. The prediction is that in the future, for this set of entry/exit reactors, there will be more dollars returned in the productive trends than are lost in the whipsaws. You...

    How much RAM?

I'm running my trading apps on Windows 7 x64 with 4G of ram and some to spare. However if I was building a new computer I would put in 8G minimum and probably 16 so that I had headroom for whatever next. Ram is really cheap now. I would look seriously at error correcting ram. There have...

    Interactive Brokers TWS Bug Thread

I'm on 906.9 also and like it but keep saving the latest "previous version" for when I must change. Most complaints seem to be charting. Solution: Sierra Chart or Multicharts if it does what you need in free.

    IB TWS software

LOL bob, still pissed? Its fine for most of us. Lots of things we wish IB would do a little differently ... but hey, do you think your countries politicians are honest? Reality sucks just a little whatever you're looking at. You should use standalone.

    Beware of Adobe 8 upgrade

Just had a look at nitro. Looks very good if you want to do a bit of editing and creation. I use the simpler foxit and probably won't change (as I don't want to) but Nitro's an impressive tool at the price of $0.00. Another good free one similar to foxit is PDF Xchange Viewer.

Rising NZD indicates different sort of traders

Yes, the real comparison is between the kiwi and aussie. The kiwi didn't float to these levels vs the US ... the US sank ... stonelike. So the kiwi has reacted to bad news and the aussie reacted to the "China will buy our minerals and make us all rich" story. Now we seem to have a...

    Trend Following Research

Those who couldn't do it write about it authoritatively. Those who were complete f'wits at et get a job writing about the writers. And someone disappears up someone elses ... Nothing mysterious about these parasites at all.
