The Soviet Union dissolved without a shot, so why the current violence ?

The only reason that I can think of is that everyone knew that the Soviet Union was an evil empire, and had to be destroyed as soon as possible. Kind of counter intuitive. The evil empire dissolves without a shot, but the Russian Federation, intent on maintaining it's influence is another story.

Nobel Peace Prize winner sends no one of importance to the Olympics

Our President's decision to send no one at all of importance to the Olympics I think is rather reckless. Nobel Peace prize winner ... hmm. I would have thought that a Nobel Peace prize winner would be trying to build bridges. Obviously, I thought wrong.

Montage of Ukrainians Tearing Down Lenin Monuments

You don't realize what Ukraine means to Russia. Russia was born from Kiev. What we need to do is embrace Russian fears (losing 26 million in WW II weighs on a nation), and convince them that we have no plan to encircle them with western leaning nations. Russia is not the Soviet Union. I...

    New York Trading Expo

I definitely saw a marked difference this year vs last. I went to see NinjaTrader to ask about NT 8, but they were not there (as well as many other vendors).

Humanity Is Getting Verrrrrrry Close To Extinction

I think you have to give something like Global Warming the benefit of the doubt, whether you believe it or not. Personally, I'm skeptical of the current theory, but it's clear that humans can and do change the environment. We pollute towns and cities. Why not on a macro scale as well ? I...

    Mathematician who changed the history.

You're a little late to the party. Wired magazine had a great article back in Fed. 09 on just this topic. One of my all time favorites. "Recipe for Disaster: The Formula That Killed Wall Street" http://www.wired.com/techbiz/it/magazine/17-03/wp_quant?currentPage=all

Putin speaks to the American people in The New York Times

I thought this line is very interesting ... "It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies." Putin is not a monster. IMO, Russians generally want a heavy-handed leader, and in Putin they got one. But I think the bloom is off the rose due to his...

Al-Qaeda Vows to Slaughter Christians After U.S. ‘Liberates’ Syria

It should be obvious to any reasonable person that we have no idea what we will unleash if we go through with this attack. I can't say that I've agreed with Charlie "Red" Rangel on much, but this time I agree with him: "There's no such thing as limited war," Rangel told MSNBC's Martin...

116 House members say Obama needs congressional approval for Syrian war.

Grenada ... you mean that Marine photo op ... vs Syria, possible trigger to WW III ? Maybe higher stakes require more Congressional approval. Just my opinion. I'm sure you're right :)

    Did Syria Find Bush's WMDs?

"Someone just made this statement on another thread. The person said Saddam Hussein sent them over" What thread ? Can you give a link ?

If the Assad regime used chemical weapons ... they should be brought to justice ...

If the Assad regime used chemical weapons ... they should be brought to justice ... but not necessarily attacked. I would support an attack on a state that : o Attacks us or one of our allies. o Puts American lives at stake. o Threatens our vital interests. The Assad...

    A lethal illness

I don't think it's about risk (at least in this situation). Risk is where I have something, and I'm willing to lose it for a better outcome. This is about fighting back. If I thought I could fight back, I'd take option 2. If I think I can't fight back (for whatever reason),I'd take...

IRS Scandal Closing In On Obama Participation

Unfortunately, I agree. If it goes anywhere, it affects the IRS, not the President. He's essentially untouchable. Anyway, would you want Biden in the WH ?

Snowden nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Swedish prof nominates Edward Snowden for Nobel Peach Prize, in part to make up for the blunder in awarding the prize to Barak Obama in 2009. Hmmm ... I guess this will restore their credibility :) http://www.salon.com/2013/07/15/edward_snowden_nominated_for_nobel_peace_prize/

    Communists are morons.

"From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." Karl Marx. Sounds like a utopia ... which is why I think it's so deceptive. I don't think you can have a productive society when you push down and stifle ability. There is no real incentive for doing anything...

Revenge For Trayvon Exists In The Obama Administration

Take the high road, whatever that means. If the system is broken, you protest etc to fix it. You don't take revenge. Just ask Gandhi (or Martin Luther King ?).
