Healthcare.gov Not Ready for Round Two

Yea, sure, ok, you win. Apparently the perceived intent (by whom?) of the law is what matters, not the law as passed by Congress (oh, yea, I forgot ... we've got to pass this, then we can read it). I'm not against federal subsidies, but the law is the law, isn't it ? From 2nd Appeals ruling...

Russian hackers ... my guess is they're white hat

The Russian hackers responsible for stealing 1.2 billion internet credentials have been described as Russian men in their 20s. Knowing Russian guys in their 20s, I suspect their motivation was not financial. More along the lines of "can we do it" and "let's get them all to change their...

"Aside from palestine can anyone think of a single thing muslims have invented?" Arabic numerals ... 1,2,3, etc ?

Information, Disinformation and the Credibility Crisis

Ok. So, go to your favorite blog for news. Conservatives can go to Drudge, liberals to Kos (then we can fight about it on ET :)). The lame stream media is in decline anyway. There are a hundred ways to skin a cat (note: no animals were harmed in the composing of ths post).

Options: Sodastream trader makes 3,000% profit in two hours

Sounds like a plan. So do we go long SODA tomorrow (I think not) ?

Options: Sodastream trader makes 3,000% profit in two hours

True. But then I guess the trick is to figure that out before hand :) Strange, at the bottom of the article we read "Correction: This article has been updated to reflect the reason the Sodastream call options were so inexpensive." I don't think .15 for contracts that expire tomorrow is...

Options: Sodastream trader makes 3,000% profit in two hours

Ok, not so unusual. But it's not .50, it's .65 (.50 + .15) to break even, so 30.15. But a move of $6 (about 20%) on a $29.50 stock is really impressive. I dunno. I probably would not have bet $7500 on options that expire tomorrow unless $7500 is not much to me, or I feel incredibly...

CNBS took 20 minutes to report the plane shot down

I've been to Ukraine. Was in Kyiv in 2004. No aggressor. Ukraine was peaceful until a short time ago (and they gave up their nukes .. who does that ?). Sure there are ethnic Russians, but Russia was born from Kyiv, was it not ? So why try to kill your ancestors ? Btw, I love Russia...

It's now clear, the Russian govt is morally corrupt

It's now clear, the Russian govt is morally corrupt. They really only care about themselves, everything is a means to an end. It's too bad, because the Russian people in general are a decent bunch, and have been through a lot. They deserve better.

Unfortunate incident: Train just misses Dem senator.

Can't speak to the politics of it, but those Acela trains can go by really fast, especially on the local track. On the Shoreline East (east of the Metro-North line, run by Amtrak), they have an announcement saying "train approaching", but not at Milford (nor at any Metro-North station, run by...

Paul Krugman: We live in the most unequal society ever, and it’s only getting worse

fc, I can't say that I agree with you very often (or Krugman for that matter), but here you appear to be dead on. This via slashdot ... http://politics.slashdot.org/story/14/04/16/0221210/study-finds-us-is-an-oligarchy-not-a-democracy

Ukraine: Our response should have been ... look Vlad wtf are you doing ?

Since Russia is in the G-8, our response to the events in Ukraine should have been much more cordial than what they are getting. Something along the lines of "look Vlad, wtf ?". Sanctions be damned. It appears that the west really has no clue about foreign policy.

    My prediction for Ukraine/Russia

My prediction for Ukraine/Russia ... if Russia invades any more than it has at present, it will set her back twenty years. It's trading partners will be China, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, et al. Putin must know this. My prediction ... if Putin invades Ukraine proper (i.e. the western half ... west...

Correct. Drag racers use these too.

Why don't commercial airliners have parachutes (like the space shuttle) ?

Just thinking about mystery flight 370. If it had to make an emergency landing, there are very few places to do it safely (requires a runway at least a mile long). In the event of an emergency landing, why are modern airliners not equipped with a landing parachute (like the space shuttle, or...

Russia and the US will eventually be friends

Russia and the US will eventually be friends ... why ? The influence of Judeo/Christianity on both of us. We have similar ideals and heritage. We'll get there. It will take some time and hard work.

Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies.

So what ? Lifespan of socially conservative ideologies ... thousands of years (all recorded history ?) Lifespan of liberal ideologies ... maybe one hundred years. Who's smarter ?

East German forces put on high alert.

Hate to admit it, but I agree with China. Russia is instrumental in determining Ukraine's future. You can't (in reality) deal with Ukraine w/o dealing with Russia. We need a return to realpolitick (hello Kissinger).

The US needs to find out what really happened in Ukraine

o Did Crimea and Russia have a treaty authorizing Russian troops in Crimea ? o Did the elected President of Ukraine (distasteful as he is) invite Russian troops there, as Russia claims ? Is Kerry talking to the Russians as well as the Ukrainians, and if not, why not ?
