Would knowing real-time crude prices aid in trading energy ETFs

    such as XLE?

Well, we kept walking and I ended up feeling like absolute shit.

Thank you. I'll share once the method and I prove to be consistent.

Things to try from 30 July 2007 to 3 August 2007: - Trade off 5 min charts - Focus on only three high-volume ETFs (XLE, XLF, SMH) - Take big winners (3:1) and use divergence to measure the risk of a profitable trade going against you. - Don't play chop. - Be more selective than ever about...

Tick, Minute, Volume, Momentum Charts - which do you use?

    I trade two ETFs: IWM and XLE. I have three charts for ES: - A 2-min bar chart with vol - A 5-min candle chart with vol/MAs - A 15-min candle chart with vol/MAs Two charts for each ETF: - A 2-min bar chart with vol/atr - A 5-min candle chart with vol/MAs Finally a one-minute NYSE...

Every weekend, I'll post pictures of my blotter for the week as well as a PNL summary. At this point, I'm 6.5 months in without a single positive month. Next update: 28 July 2007

    Any thoughts on daytrading ETFs?

I enjoyed trading XLE, XLF, and SMH today. Thinking of sticking with them for a while.

Do any daytraders here use ATR to set their profit taking?

I've been catching relatively big winners lately (0.35-0.50+), but I'm still not sure of the best way to take profits. That is, which point would be optimal in the long run given risk vs. reward. I used to take profits if the price closed on the opposite side of an EMA, now I'm using ATR...

Please suggest a few resources to help me get started in automated trading

I stare at the screen eight hours a day. I'm not dreaming of some program that automatically pulls money without supervision. I just know that, if I want to continue in this business into my 30s and beyond, I'll need to get into computer trading. I don't want to be middle-aged and still...

Daytraders: how many stocks do you monitor at a time?

'Cause nothing fucking works at Swifttrade (my prop firm). There are no alert systems whatsoever. They want everyone to be scalping 10,000-50,000 shares at a time for two cents on stocks like GE, PFE, AMD, MOT, TWX, et al. I tried using their so-called conditional order system a week ago...

Daytraders: how many stocks do you monitor at a time?

There's the dilemma. I can't trade stocks like BIDU/FSLR because my shutdown is $250 at the moment. I'll have to settle for less volatile stocks with a dollar ATR until I can work my way up.

Daytraders: how many stocks do you monitor at a time?

Excellent point. What I also need are stocks with low volatility as my shutdown threshold at this point is still low. What do you think of these...

What if I can buy thousands of shares at a time?

Please suggest a few resources to help me get started in automated trading

Right now, all I know is C/C++ and how to scalp equities (which I'm still mastering).

Daytraders: how many stocks do you monitor at a time?

Right now, I'm monitoring about 12 at a time, and I find it almost impossible to trade breakouts. There are no conditional orders available at my prop firm. I'm thinking of just specializing in four stocks: SLB, XOM, GE, PFE

What do you think of daytrading only with 5-min charts?

I have Level 2 and Time and Sales up at all times as well. forgot to mention that. I just find myself getting mixed up in a lot of noise on the 1-min and 2-min charts.
