I use firstrade.com and this morning's glitch has already cost me about $3,000.
I places orders near market open and they still havent been filled! They have a message on the front page saying there is a technical issue to be resolved soon. It is almost 11am and still nothing.

Is it necessary to have/use both proper trading software in addition to the tools that your brokerage account brings?
Why is trading software necessary if your brokerage account has charting, screening, etc?

Thank you all, indeed as one poster wrote there is indeed some valuable, helpful folks out there.
And I have read some books its just that its all theory, no practice, and when its go live time the practice isnt reflecting what the books are saying!

If you're a day trader, how do you measure if you're paying too much in fees?
For instance if you make 20k of profit a year but you make 2-3 trades a day this can eat half the profits.
Is there a rule of thumb for how much is too much?

Does anyone know/have a technique for spotting tents before the form?
By tents I mean the ones formed by a lower EMA, say 13 when it crosses a higher EMA, say 50, but shortly thereafter decides to go the other way.

Question for day traders;
Was wondering if anyone here had a technique for spotting ahead of time when the lower EMA reverts and unconfirms a trend previously identified by the crossing of the higher EMA.
They give me my only losses and are not too bad but would be great if they could be...
That easily shows the % of the 390 minutes the market lasts open in a day that are 'up' minutes?
or... a count of green candles vs. red candles on any given day
i.e. 200 green vs. 190 red
