Buckets in IB for multiple strategies

Hello all, As i am expanding with my derivative trading in ib, i want to create separate buckets for various strategies i am trading. Reporting is useful if possible on individual groups; but it makes it a lot easier when i have to do adjustments to various types of strategies. Is there a way...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

And here's a 2 lot of verticals from this morning costing me only 1.69 on IB. Nice. Dont know exactly how it happened but would like to.. maybe this is replicable if understood. But in the bigger picture of things this is of kind of a second order; i think its just ok for me to depend on smart...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Very good info trader42. Yes, i've done a bunch of cancel replace orders on smart and have seen it only getting charged an extra 0.01; so thats a non issue. I am a bit not clear about the add/remove liquidity fee though. For CBOE for example for Penny Pilot ->ETFs (SPY in particular), it shows...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Interesting info. Well.. soon someday they will smarten up and create a unified order book (like the reg NMS did for stock orders; or maybe they will update NMS for this) and we can get better fills. And yes; i also do route between ISE and CBOE mostly for my orders on tos when they are close to...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Thats correct trader42. It stinks; which is why i moved away from IB to TOS about 10 years ago. But now that i am in Canada, TD's got this $5min; and that apart, i began liking the fact that there is no charge for assignment; its a big hit on tos ($15bucks for leg). Also, i like having atleast 2...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Good info Robert. Thanks. As for routing spreads to exchange directly i know that ISE and CBOE have spread order books. How would i know where i can route the order to? That apart, when i trade from mobile platforms (which i do quite often), AFAIK it wont let me route away from smart.

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Hello trader42, yes; thats in US. In canada, its close (with TDbank & Tos) but there is a 5$min; so i need to trade in 4 lots to make commisions make sense. And yes; in tos your order does show up on NBBO. FWIW, now i have been trading in ib also for about 6 months; and i think the fills are...

Trading options - How to have an edge?

Though TNA & TZA are hedges against each other; you dont want to put ic's in both. Think.. the worst case scenario for either of the ics is a big movement. And when that happens in one it happens in the other just in the opposite direction. So you will get double whammied. Just pick one; its...

Trading options - How to have an edge?

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

My experience with IB orders also validates what you are saying oldnemesis. I have seen IBs orders not appearing on NBBO and ofcourse not; since they are not routing it to the exchange at all. So strange. Fine i will try routing to an exchange directly i guess. Only problem is i have to pick...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

I was testing option fills on tos vs IB. On friday i had an order selling a straddle in XOP in IB for 6.23 for about 15mins around 10AM. Then i routed one in tos for the same price and it got filled instantly. The IB one stayed on all day long even after i reduced the price by a penny and it...

Options other than IB for option traders in Canada?

Yes. So if you sell a put and cover it later commisions are 3$ vs $22.50. hmm. Also just realized that if assigned TD charges about 40$ for that; no charge at IB.

Half way through life and not close to being consistent

gamblingman, Good posts here on ET for a change. All the best to you. I am in a similar boat as you are; one thing that helped me siginficantly recently is always concentrating on being in that "delta comfort" zone and being aggressive in cutting risk to get back into the zone when it gets...

Options other than IB for option traders in Canada?

Vision, Suretrader, virtual brokers, all have has ticket charge for options. Same with TDwaterhouse and Questtrade. In the process of opening with IB. Looks like its the only game in town.

Options other than IB for option traders in Canada?

Are there any other options for option traders other than IB in canada. Not that i have any axe against them but exploring options (tongue in cheek). Basically anyone with decent software, no ticket charges and around a buck per leg, with maybe better margin relief than IB. ps: sucks...

College student looking for advice on the best route to start learning options

+1 Also look at the really old tos chats from the tos archive (go back almost to the beginning of when they started the chats) - specially the ones by Joe Kinahan or Tom Preston. Also look at tastytrade.com - you will not find any more info on option trading than between these two sites...
