    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Days like this I wish I could trade more often outside of 14:00-16:00. Agree with the general sentiment here that the major move is done and there are no major longs to be had (though 2-4 points scalps are available long on the ES). If there's another move down available, I'll take it only...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

I try to adjust based on what's happening. Trading with-trend on a trending day, I look to put pullbacks and ride to new highs and keep repeating that. If I trade counter-trend because it looks like price is climaxing at a critical level after multiple legs up, I'll scalp. My exits right now...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

I think my first three trades basically tell the story. My first trade was the circles you see in the image. I saw price constantly being pushed back up 3396 on the 30-min so when 10:00am ET rolled around, I figured it was a long. I got in, you can see it went six points in my favor. The right...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

What a crappy day. I was being greedy again and wanting more. I have trouble telling a likely range/chop day from a trend day. Out of the six trades I took, four of them went 3-5 points in the money before coming back and stopping me out at breakeven. The other two were losers.

Took two trades, got out of both breakeven. We were in a range during my hours (14:00-16:00) and I could've scored 4-5 points each and ended decently, but I was greedy and banking on a breakout. Entries were sensible though and I didn't finish red.

    Asking 3382, stop at 3392.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

That's fair. I want to contribute more but I trade for 3-8 points at a time (in this market) and the trades are fast and short-lived to comment live. And I think posting the trades in hindsight would just invite criticism. For what it's worth, here's my single trade today. The stop on that was...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

I don't have ES journal up when I trade (between 14:00-16:00 only). I got extremely lucky.

What's the microstructure reasoning (or hypothesis) behind why gaps get filled? Why would gaps from days ago matter to institutions?

What causes downward spikes followed by an immediate surge like we saw on the ES 5-minute chart at 14:00 ET?

What's a good way to start learning how market-making works?

Side question: How much continuous probability is there in quantitative trading (or is it mostly discrete)? And will learning time series analysis benefit?

What's a good way to start learning how market-making works?

What does it take to become a successful market-maker? What kind of skills and knowledge does one need? I'm specifically looking at equity market-making with no options.

Share your opinion of this hypothetical course outline found on Nuclear Phynance.

The author originally wanted to teach this course but didn't have a chance. It's on how to develop strategies in a systematic manner. What do you like or dislike about it? How would you change it? I'm looking for a learning path for myself and this one seems to be a good start.

Question about props paying out 100%

From what I understand, if a firm is a licensed B/D, takes a deposit, and pays out 100%, then it's a client relationship and therefore leverage can't go above 4:1. This is the case with firms such as Genesis and Equitrade. So why are there so many deposit-requiring firms that offer 10:1 or...
