Fed Monetizes 1 Trillion in MBS and Treasuries for 2013

LOL! Yes, thanks for correcting me. Illinois just needs to legalize pot for a few years, tax the hell out of it and pay down the debt. No debt left? Repeal if needed.

Obviously you don't have any experience in Quantitative Trading.

Fed Monetizes 1 Trillion in MBS and Treasuries for 2013

Precisely. Illinois is in worse shape than California. Teachers, Fireman, Policrman, etc get a pension well over 100k per year when they retire. In comparison my Dad's pension is 25k per year + 25k social security + whatever he's required to withdraw from his IRAs. That's a reasonable...

Fed Monetizes 1 Trillion in MBS and Treasuries for 2013

Interesting thoughts, with the exception of the Jury Duty analogy, but it's nothing more than a dream. The Gov't wont spend within their means, the tax code is going to get more complicated, lobbying will continue, and jobs will keep heading to Chindia. You're forgetting who runs the...

    X-Ray of the stock market

I've always payed attention to whole numbers but I've never done a study on it. Nice work. From your graphs it also seems multiples of 0.25 get some attention to.

best option strategy for my quant stock trading system?

Exactly what I was thinking re: spread. Using stops on options is also a problem, especially if the spreads are wide. Commission, spreads, and stops could easily turn a winning stock system into a losing option system.

A list of all scam unregulated 3rd party educational vendors

Tradethemarkets.com is probably one of the biggest scams of them all. They take an indicator, tweek it a little, slap a name on it and toss it in a package for a fee of something like....1,500 bucks. I guess it's the idiots that fall for this who are at blame, not TTM's. Nonetheless, they are...

    Luck vs Trading

No doubt there is an element of luck in the markets. Luck is present in every adventure that attempts to predict the future. I doubt a string of luck would stretch among 100 descretionary trades. I imagine that is mathematically impossible. What is likely happening is a change in market...

    USPS what is the point?

Haven't read the entire thread so someone may have posted this but the only thing I get in my mailbox is medical bills and junk mail. All my other bills are electronic and it wouldn't be hard for medical bills to become electronic. It's probably already in the works. The USPS is a dinosaur...

Does your Back hurt ? What do you do?

Two things: 1. An anti-inflammatory diet such as the Zone diet and, 2. modest exercise. "No pain, no gain" is trouble. Exercise should not be painful. If it is you are doing more harm than good. The best advice is the Zone diet. A balance of healthy fats, healthy carbs, and healthy...

Ahhh....for the go-go days again. We really did party like it was 1999. Nuttin like buying a stock and having it double in a week :D.

Boy, what a difficult question. I'm not sure I've even thought of that but what I do throughout different measures of time is plot market data to see what type of curve it generates. Generally, the market will develop a curve that comes close to an F-distribution but depending on the time...

OT, agree. A computer cannot generate a perfect random series. I've developed many Monte Carlo simulations and I've yet to find one that can't be mathematically proven as random. Even though I'm a strong proponent of market randomness I'll be the first to tell you the market is not 100%...

Nothing like quitting at the top of your game. I don't blame Henry for getting out. I think he's doing the right thing. I'm sure he'll be in warm climates soon sipping umbrella drinks! What I said is not hindsight. I'm referring to a tool I use to measure volatility and it went ballistic...

Pardon my post if it sounded as though I was using 20/20 hindsight as a means of just knowing it was a "just buy" market. Naturally, we all know that now and your point about 2007/2008 is well taken. That being said, however, there was a point in 2007 where I was pretty darn sure the market...
