    CAT downgrade

I wondered why CAT was down yesterday when the DOW was up 100 points. I thought maybe it was just an industry thing in sympathy with Deere but today they are downgraded by Sniffle Nicolas... not that anybody should care what Sniffle thinks, but it obviously makes a difference on the margin.

Your workday will be 1 hour longer (you will have to start 1 hour earlier) in the winter when we move our clocks because Japan does not move theirs. Will you be all by yourself or will there be others working with you? Do you have a quiet place to sleep during the day (morning)? How...

Thank you both for posting the New Yorker article and the Colbert video. I am reading and enjoying Fooled by Randomness, although at times it makes me want to go out and shoot myself for even thinking that I might be able to make a living trading. If Empirica is a successful fund, my...

What if Fed statement is unchanged today?

Well, it wasn't exactly unchanged, as in every work identical, but it may as well have been! As expected, "March 21" was changed to "May 9" Other changes: Recent indicators have been mixed changed to: Economic growth slowed in the first part of this year Recent readings...

What if Fed statement is unchanged today?

An unchanged fed funds rate is certainly expected, but I think many analysts are looking for some subtle changes in the text, especially after the confusion created by the March statement. for example, May 9 (Bloomberg) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke may today seek a...

Why didn't the Wongs buy options?

Their original plan was to buy 1000 call options but there was a misunderstanding and the trade did not go through. The branch manager, when asked who had placed the large order was told, "That would be Wong," so the order was canceled......................... :D (rimshot)

What if Fed statement is unchanged today?

I mean, word for word identical to the March 21 statement (except the date). At that time changes in the Fed's wording created quite a bit of confusion - did they change their bias? Are they moving towards an ease? If you look at the March 21 statement you can make a case for keeping it...

    CAT?? gimme a break!

So the Dow is down 50 points and CAT is up a point... I sell out my position (almost 1/2 point ago) and start to wonder why is this stock up so much? Oh, somebody suggested that CAT could be Warren Buffet's big mega acquisition target. ok...

    stop limit order (how often)?

That makes sense. I was thinking about this yesterday, but figured out on my own that using a stop "limit" order would kind of defeat the purpose of using a stop loss order.
