Hi John: The first pullback after the 8:30 news on a one minute chart was at a resistance line from the left. Would you have gone long from 8:39 to 8:44?

115 200 will be a key level today Great call, John. ZN was near 115 200 from 8.23 to 8:47. The direction was up and ES was moving down. This would have been a low risk entry.

John - Just to clarify my post. If there is something wrong, it is a mistake by IB, not you.

Great trading, John. I have a question regarding the 10:32:32 post in your BookTrader. The cost of the buy is shown as 116.234. Should it not be 116.075

John - The first retrace short was sweeter because the retrace was to sup/res from the left side of the chart. Thanks for the setup.

Hi John: I understand wanting to keep some things for yourself. However, you never know until you ask. The short at the first retrace at 10:10:44 sure looks easy in retrospect. I am asking myself why I did not get the trade. Regards Jim

I saw a pattern that almost always results in a rather significant move in my direction. John - Is this pattern something that you would be willing to share?

Hi John: If I understood you correctly, a favorite entry of yours is at the first retrace after a news release using a 3 or 5 minute chart. I would appreciate it if you would give me your thoughts on a long entry at the circle on the attached chart. The chart is a 20 range bar chart. The...

Hi John: Thank you for the very complete explanation. I wish I knew how you decided in advance that 116-19.0 was a place to buy and how 117-04.0 was a major target and that 117-12.0 was the price for the next leg up. After the 8:30 news, ZN did retrace to 116-19.5 and I can understand...

A very conservative example of how to make money day in and day out in the 10 year futures. Yes, I completely missed the spike up move on the first few 5 min bars post 0830 EST report. So what. Attachment: zn 09-09 7_31_2009 (1 min) - copy.jpg This has been downloaded 18 time(s). John -...

John - Your strategy of entering after the first retrace on a news release would have worked great this morning at the GDP news at 8:30. I will remember that for future news releases.

John - Are you still writing this journal? Would someone please let me know if there is a news source, other than CNBC, for bond sales? Bonds tanked after what must have been bad news on sales at 1:00 eastern today.

Thank you for your reply, Enoch. I understand your comment regarding s&r. However, is it not a good thing that the 30 year moves are more exaggerated? Do we not want bigger moves?

I trade the 30 year bond, symbol ZB. I would appreciate it if you would give us your comments as to why you have decided to trade the 10 year bond.

If edge is hard to get, why traders keep trading?

When I started trading, I had no idea what was involved. My guess is that most people who get into trading are the same. If I had known that almost no one becomes profitable, even after many, many years, I may have done something else. It is also possible that I may have tried anyway as my...

Volume on 30 year bond. symbol ZB

eSignal and DTN provide volume data on intraday sales on a current basis for the U.S. electronic bonds. However, the data does not include volume data for spreads; that is sales of one year bond and purchase of another. As such the volume being reported accounts for only approximately half of...

    News source for bonds

The 30 Year U.S. bond, starting at 9:30 eastern, dropped like a rock today. The S&P emini basically closed where it opened. The news on CNBC is focused on the eminis and the Dow Industrial. If any bond traders have a good source for intraday news, I would appreciate it if they would let me know.
