Exiting a naked put position with no market

You do not need to have a quote. Just put in a limit order good-till-cancelled to buy it back at whatever the current value is (shown on your broker statements) plus if need be a small amount, and usually it will be filled.

Also look at open-source Java ActiveQuuant which support more order types but is less polished.

    interactive-brokers real-time liquidation madness

That's good because it may encourage IB to reexamine its procedures and hopefully eventually adopt improvements to its liquidation procedures along the lines that have been suggested here.

Portfolio margin is for stocks and has no effect on futures margin. Actually you can tell when the Yuan futures bid is out of line by looking at the price of the underlying instrument which trades elsewhere and is more liquid.

Ok so they just admitted that the *mark* (ie. settlement) prices are the best way to judge risk. Is that what they did? According to your prior account, no. So you already have them contradicting themselves. That is the kind of thing that you would need for a claim against them. Have...

    Sugar Spread

What do you think of this related spread trade (but different): Sell March 2011 35 or 40 calls Buy July 2011 30 calls I had this trade on a few weeks ago (prior to the crash). Right now I am just long the July calls and waiting for a further price recovery before re-selling the March...

    Sugar Spread

Right. What in the current macroeconomic picture would tell one not to sell the spread a few weeks ago when March got up to 33? I guess one could have but it seemed to continue to widen for a while even after Sugar crashed a few days ago.

    Sugar Spread

I was watching an interview on Bloomberg with Mihir Worah, who manages a big PIMCO commodity fund. http://www.bloomberg.com/video/64561610/ starting around 4:25: "When sugar was at its peak in Jan-Feb around 30 cents a pound, we sell the May front month which is where the demand is and we...

That would not happen. Try learning something about currencies. Anyway I'm only talking about making a sanity check before liquidating in the situation where there is a lack of real quotes on futures and there are narrow spreads on the underlying.

There often are no quotes in that future.

    interactive-brokers real-time liquidation madness

I do not think they should use market orders to liquidate in illiquid markets where there is no reasonable bid and ask. Instead, they should start with a limit order and gradually move it out. If necessary, they can move the limit out quickly but I do not think they should *start* with...

If you had plenty of free margin then file an IB complaint ticket (instructions are on their web site). If they eventually refuse and you still believe you are correct then you can file an NFA arbitration. I would not worry about counterclaim - that mainly arises I think if they lost money...

    Forex broker for trading forint

Not on Idealpro but IB does offer Forint Futures. I have traded it. There may be no bids or asks but you can figure out what the price should be from another source for spot and put in a limit order. Someone somewhere will arbitrage it for you against cash and fill it if you give them a...

    Interactive Brokers and KCBOT

I suggest opening a ticket in the Product category and asking about their plans. This has worked for me. It may take a few days to get a reply with a ticket but you should get a response from someone who knows more. I am just an IB customer.

Long Term Currency Position in HKD Alternatives?

You have a darn good point re the interest adding up! So far I have just done it with cash already in the account (I sell options a lot so I always have more cash then equity) I would like to lever it up. I guess 2x is bearable. I do think that there is a chance that the peg could...

Long Term Currency Position in HKD Alternatives?

I have come to the conclusion that in the case of IB as well, you can just place the Forex trades and not worry about which will be conversions and which will be pair trades and which will be borrowings in one currency or another. Since there is no way to specify which of these you intend, it...
