Good point, I always look forward to the markets reopening on Mondays, can't say that I particularly look forward to going back to work each Monday. :p For example, I took a small long position in TMTA mid-week at $0.96/shr, not very good timing, but I'm currently very excited to see how this...

DOTM (Deep Out of The Money) Options

Do you think that this strategy is something that would primarily apply to large cap, very liquid underlying equities (such as INTC, QQQQs, etc.)? One issue that I could potentially see with buying deep OTM options would be that the open interest might not be large enough to support large...

Your statement reminds me of a quote from Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. I'm going to mangle this a bit, but basically a trader is talking to another trader and says, "I'm holding so much cotton that I can't sleep at night, what should I do?" The reply? "Sell your cotton until you're able...

It would be great if someone else can comment on this observation (I honestly haven't looked at Options pricing on an intraday basis at all yet), but I would speculate that the increase in options values that you are seeing at the open are due to the higher volatility (implied volatility?) of...

Exactly. There was (is?) obviously money to be made in real estate, but it amazes me sometimes how people think. Personally if I was living in a property worth, say, $700K, with a $250K or so mortgage, I would probably be either inclined to sit tight (if I actually want to live there for the...

Going back to GOOG, I was just taking a look at their chart, and I think it's primed for a downwards correction.

    No growth but good profit!!

I'm not really sure that it's a temporary situation. I think that what happened is that many companies had the living you know what scared out of them recently by the economy post-9/11, and did a lot of belt tightening as a result of that. There are also many companies right now that are sitting...

Bingo. I work for a mortgage company (I'm a uni business student), and you wouldn't belive the things that I hear. People with piles of equity that could probably retire early if they sold out now. The same people coming back to try and refinance as much as they can of that equity. People...

How the Hell do I get approved for options?

I hear you on this one, I'm a university student, itching to have a go at a "real" trading account, but it's going to take time to work up to that level. At least I'm fortunate enough to have an excellent level of income while in school, has helped to keep my student loans very low.

How the Hell do I get approved for options?

I wonder if this might have something to do with the level of access that you were looking for? For example, I was browsing through Questrade's website and application form (www.questrade.ca), and it appears that they handle the issue of varying levels of options risk by approving a trader...

That is actually a very interesting theory that you have. I'm actually somewhat suprised to hear that the "dumb money" is involved in selling options vs. buying, partially because I would think that the strategies involved would be more complex than simply buying puts and calls. Something...

One more point I would like to make is that options are generally touted academically as a risk management tool. I think the reason you see people talking about complex options strategies is that they are attempting to keep their risk as low as possible while simultaneously keeping their return...

My suggestion regarding NVDA would be to avoid taking a long position for the moment, the current quarter tends to be a weak one for them seasonally. If you take a look back over the past couple of years, there have tended to be fairly significant drops in early August, usually due to profit...

Anyone know when Dateline's "Stockgate" is airing?

Well, it's unfortunate if I have done something to perpetuate the rumour, though I plan on taping Dateline that day just to be sure.

I agree, as things stands, I would view TASR as more likely to go down than up at the moment, they have dropped the ball for a couple of quarters now. I think that TASR is something that a person would primarily play with long rang out of the money calls, because one would assume that they will...

Anyone know when Dateline's "Stockgate" is airing?

I've read on a number of sites that Dateline has been delaying the airing of a segment on the stock markets (I believe that naked shorting is a major part of the topic). Has anyone seen any updates on when this will be airing?

Is the July rally getting exhausted or consolidating for the next run up?

I agree with this sentiment, I think that the probability of downwards movement right now outweighs upwards movement. That said, I'm not really sure what the catalyst for the downwards movement will be, we've been seeing very strong earnings so far, many of the techs are doing great (AMD...

It's interesting that you mention stability in relation to option pricing, I understand that volatility is a factor, but haven't gotten into too much detail yet with calculating valuations. Anyways, one of the stocks I mentioned previously, TASR, sure has settled down a lot lately. I was...

I was just looking at GOOG options, are you sure you don't mean GOOG 330 calls? GOOG options are pretty interesting to look over. I'm not in a position to play around with options, won't be until sometime in 2006, but I think the only thing I would be remotely comfortable with at this point...

Thanks for the link. I was hoping for historical options pricing (not just the underlying), but I prefer the OptionsXpress site's design over that of the Nasdaq, the options pricing is arranged a bit more intuitively.
