    couple corporate finance questions.

Well, speaking from my own experience, the local university business programs include a mandatory corporate finance class for all business undergrads. Exact curriculum would vary, but ours tend to talk about how interest works (e.g. investments and loans, FV, PV), explains risk/reward, bit on...

    couple corporate finance questions.

As it happens, I'm a finance major too, though my darn degree is taking forever to finish, I work too much hehe... Anywho, here are some alternate answers. 1) The two aren't necessarily directly related. For example, shareholders directly benefit from things like dividends and share...

Were Delphi Bondholder's Dumb, stupid, or just Greedy ?

I've never traded bonds, so I can't comment on this from a practical perspective, and my bond class in uni is boring me to tears right now, but that's another story. :) Anyways, you are absolutely right. Just because it's a potential strategy doesn't mean that it's guaranteed to work, is...

Were Delphi Bondholder's Dumb, stupid, or just Greedy ?

Thanks for posting this, I just read through the thread and was going to post something quite similar in response to the question of "why would someone go short the stock and long the bonds?" The idea is that the bondholders have priority over common stock holders during bankruptcy...

    Is this PR deceptive?

I haven't heard that term used before either. I assume that PR indicates what the maximum dollar size of the contract could be, but it would probably be far more helpful to indicate what the likely size (or, say, minimum size) of the contract is. I mean, saying that the maximum size is $10...

Were Delphi Bondholder's Dumb, stupid, or just Greedy ?

Don't some hedge funds do this type of thing as pair trading when a company is in distress, e.g. short the stock and long the bonds?

    Delta airlines

I'm not a bankruptcy expert, but take a look at their current and long-term debt. Those debt holders are first in line before anyone else in the bankruptcy. It's also worth noting that the last snapshot we have of the company is for the quarter ended June 30, 2005, things have likely...

    Looking for canadian brokerage

Just so you know, most Canadian brokerages that I'm aware of do not enforce pattern day trading restrictions, I believe that Questrade for example specifically states on their website that they do no. The exception to this is IB Canada, they do enforce it.

    Chart watch - TMTA

Good points. I've been following TMTA in detail for a little over a year now, and they have come very far indeed with their turnaround story. I share your frustration when it comes to predicting earnings, unfortunately that has always been a serious issue while following TMTA for the past...

Interesting PR of the day, re: EAG...

I've been watching EAG for a bit, wondering at times if it's a turnaround story in the making, but the stock has been a real dog for the past year. That said, this news release caught my interest, can they actually be successful in sueing "anonymous" message board posters? Is there any...

    Chart watch - TMTA

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "new fabs" Grew? As far as I know TMTA has always been a fabless company, they sub out fabbing of their chips. More recently TMTA decided to move away from chip production/sales and focus more on a licensing/royalties business model. While they are holding...

    Music while trading?

Trance music. :D Nothing like a bit of PVD, Armin Van Buuren or Ferry Corsten to listen to while studying or trading. Though for me, trading right now = watching/analyzing the markets while monitoring position trades.

    definition of vesting?

I'm not a legal expert, but yes, vesting tends to mean that you are restricted from selling shares for a period of time. For example, the company I work for has an employee share ownership plan, and the company matches a portion of contributions to the plan. I can sell my portion of the...

Questions re: IB from Canadian perspective

Okay, so when you trade $USD products with a $CND base currency account you are just borrowing $USD for the duration of the trade, as opposed to converting currencies back and forth each time you trade? For example, if I have a $CND denominated account with my current broker, and purchase US...

Best place to position myself in this industry

I'm a business student, and I have to agree that there are many franchises that are questionable in terms of ROI. For example, we have a major gasoline retailer up here in Canada (which shall remain unnamed), which involves very high upfront costs in order to purchase and establish your own...

Questions re: IB from Canadian perspective

I've been keeping an eye on IB Canada for a bit now as a potential brokerage to open an account with (my current brokerage is very pricey), and I have a couple of questions regarding currency issues. I know that IB offers a "Universal Account" where you can trade various types of derivatives...

Running Four Monitors with SLI Video Cards

Whether or not it would be faster is dependant on the application. Keeping in mind that I haven't built or used a set-up featuring SLI yet, here is what I can tell you: - For gaming there is definately a benefit, two matching cards running in SLI mode on an SLI motherboard with the bridge...

    Chart watch - TMTA

I've been watching TMTA closely since my last trade in early August. Stock has been showing falling tops recently, interim support around $1.35, but I'm expecting the stock to break downwards soon. The odd thing about the stock lately is that I'm actually quite bullish right now on TMTA...
