About Sub-Pennying - High Fequency Trading

thank goodness. i have no problem with subpennying. i have a HUGE problem when i'm not allowed to do it, and my bid or offer sits there vacant while getting 1/100'd away. good luck with this, but i'm not holding my breath.

How about the ability to ignore entire threads?

i agree, but not only the newb trading, but some of the other threads that have lasted forever, where ppl try to show who's a pretend BSD. if the ignore thread feature was there, i'd see other threads which might be of more interest; as is, those other threads don't appear because they're not...

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

you don't need to, kev. the 3k of "losses" is only if your TOTAL for the year is, for example, -5000. your total for the year is 110k. that's your number, unless you've got 160k in (for example) an IRA gain and 50k in losses in (for example) a regular account.

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

kev - you should be paying taxes on 110k (165 gains - 55 in losses) MINUS normal deductions (contributions, IRA, etc.). don't remember where the IRA deduction line occurs at.

Actual interview brainteaser at a top flight shop

you'd need to have something so that if you have lost the first two, you can still win. so in this case, you'd have X (first round) +2x (second) +4X (third round) = 200. so your max drawdown can be to about 29. and that would mean open bet about 35.

So how was your performance in 2009

trader21 - my non-trading side kept watching that for that as well. but my trading side saw on the dow - a bounce, a consolidation at 8k, a drop (which should have kept going) and sharp reversal up, and then after that, every action of the market, up until the past month or so, has been...

So how was your performance in 2009

trader21 - lots of volatility in february/march, and may/june. i didn't do as well in the first one, did much better in the second. other than that, my discipline was in waiting for my setups, and then pouncing.

    How is Interactive Brokers Cheaper?

i find i get better fills on IB than most other platforms, esp. NON-direct access.

So how was your performance in 2009

very good year. some of it attributable to the volatility, some of it to having increased discipline and becoming a better trader, trusting my exit reads more. though i doubt i'll do as well next year, i'm still getting better as a trader.

    Level II "flashing"?

it's not HFT. i've found it's several things (using example for the long side): 1) error 2) someone who really wants to buy shares. the bid will move up slowly at first, then people will start lifting the offer. 3) someone who wants to SELL shares. they'll put it out there, see if other...

Can't buy and sell same contract (IB)

and, tradersu, if you cancel an options order, you get charged $1 / contract. some brokers (which charge more than IB) eat the cost of that. IB passes it on. i'm fine with IB passing it on, but it's pretty awful that thee xchanges have decided "we" can't cancel contracts without a fee, or...
