Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Again, you can make the case against subsidies but electric cars are probably a rather small one in the grand scheme of things. Do you also hate oil because the government subsidizes it? How about hospitals? Do you hate them as well because medicare keeps them in business? But you really are...

Chevy Volt a lemon for GM. Current administration makes sour lemonade.

It's very strange what you know to be facts, considering you said Obama hiked the credit to $10k. No such thing is true. Obama proposed in his budget to increase it. It's not law until Congress passes it, which is no small feat. In addition you said it was to bribe wealthy liberals. I own a Volt...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

So electric subsidies are bad but natural gas ones are good? So basically you just want the government to support what you believe in not what you don't. With natural gas below $2, you would think the market would have taken care of that on its own.

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Why is it off base? If people didn't buy the iPhones at $599 so that Apple could recoup their investment and bring the price down, you wouldn't be able to buy one for $99 today. The government is subsidizing it to encourage people to buy it so that the cost can come down to a level that it won't...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Sure thing Keyboard Commando. Let it all out. Please provide a link to these real world test that show only 25 miles per charge. I know you won't, so I'll just point you to Voltstats.net that shows the average Volt driver does 75% of their driving on all electric. I suppose we should take...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

OK great, then don't get one. 40 miles gets me to the office and everywhere else I need to go. I think a V8 sportscar is useless. Doesn't make it a bad car, just doesn't make it right for me. Good for you. I have 1200 miles on my car and am getting 323 MPG and 78 MPG electric equivalent. But you...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Well I'm sorry the Volt doesn't fit YOUR driving habits. Last time I checked, when something works fine for one person and not for another one, it doesn't make it a bad product. It fits my driving habits just fine. Do you hate the Volt because it's a bad car or do you not like the government...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

The range is unlimited because it can always run on gas if need be. If you are asking what the combined MPG is, that would depend on how long you drive it. The first 35-40 miles is gas free. Then it gets about 37 MPG. So it would depend how long you drive after the battery is depleted.

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Wow, you really have some anger issues. You're still bent up about the onboard generator occasionally needing to send power directly to the wheels. Give it up man. You can bash the Volt all you want but it is still the only vehicle of its kind. There are no other vehicles that can use 100%...

Chevy Volt takes 27 years before owners save money

Real life stories like this have no place in these kinds of forums. The price will come down in time. It needs to at least come down to the current net price with tax credit point to be viable in the future. Remember when iPhone's were $599?

When you talk with your clients, do you share similiar inaccurate statements as the ones you make here?

Treat house mortgages just like Reg-T margin.

I bought a house last year with 3% down plus closing costs. The fact that housing prices went down probably 40% in my area is the only way I could afford a house. My mortgage of $1200 will be easily maintanable so long as my income stays about the same, or maybe a little lower. It seems the...

    Chevy volt production is stopped.

I drove 22 miles yesterday with 17 miles left on the charge. How do you come up with 25 miles at best? Have you even seen or driven a production Volt? The heater works just fine. It wears a lot on the battery but still works fine. I rarely use it because by the time it heats up, I'm at my...

I'd rather buy coal from West Virginia than oil from Canada/Saudi Arabia/Iran.

    Chevy volt production is stopped.

OK, so the Volt doesn't fit your needs. Then don't buy one. Get a Cruze or a Sonata hybrid or something else. Just because it doesn't fit your needs doesn't make it a bad car. I never said the cost adds up in the end. It probably doesn't. Remember when an iPhone cost $599? Now look at them...

    Chevy volt production is stopped.

Ah ha! The truth comes out. Your commute is 16 miles longer than the Volt's electric range and thus doesn't fulfill your needs, therefore it's a bad car. After reading the concept part of the wikipedia article, it seems the goal was to make a vehicle that could be plugged in and go about 40...

    Chevy volt production is stopped.

I imagine the Ford salesman would probably be mad. Although didn't Ford take federal loans as well? I'm honestly not sure, so correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not here to defend GM. You can certainly argue that they should not have been bailed out. But all of the political and corporate talk has...

    Chevy volt production is stopped.

"Profit margin per vehicle"? They are losing money on the Volt right now. What you're essentially saying is that they should have gone with a higher production cost vehicle so that they can in turn have a higher costing vehicle. Just imagine if the Volt cost $50k+. Then you people would really...

Chevy Volt a lemon for GM. Current administration makes sour lemonade.

Again, I'm still waiting for the design that you wanted them to make. All you have said is what a terrible design it is but haven't pointed out what you would have done differently. And yes, 10 years ago, the same people critisizing the Prius are the ones now critisizing the Volt. In time...
