    Bonds for the small trader

I know what duration and yield volatility is, I mean enough to trade futures. These concepts are almost irrelevant for the technical futures trader anyway. Again I don't want to trade spreads or the yield curve. You must have a doctor in your family, but that's all right. People always get...

    Bonds for the small trader

I agree , notional value is not an indication of risk. The risk as I see in bond futures is 1.5-2 full points times the number of contracts you carry , that's how much it can move in 30 sec, blow through your stops or coincide with a technical failure at your broker. So "max" loss per...

    Bonds for the small trader

I don't know what you call undercapitalized, I don't think I am, compared to the average retail trader . The thing is if you trade over several days, and scale in and out thus with several contracts, you are carrying positions with a notional of a multiple of 100K. In my book and with my risk...

Doctors In Financial Trouble: Many Selling Their Practices & Switching Careers

Something is wrong when doctors own turbo charged top of the line airplanes ! IMO 80% of doctors should be defacto govt employees, The other 20% who see this as a business... well they can go work for the very wealthy who have special needs but everybody could afford the same basic level of...

Doctors In Financial Trouble: Many Selling Their Practices & Switching Careers

Medicine in France is top notch. I live in Switzerland and would rather go there than to a Swiss doctor who is like a US doctor but worse, very expensive (by the minute rate!!) greedy , unavailable, and without any serious liability in case things go wrong and then on top of that subsidized by...

Doctors In Financial Trouble: Many Selling Their Practices & Switching Careers

That NYT article looks like doctor's PR in response to this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/14/opinion/14sun1.html Doctors are responsible for the skyrocketing cost of care, yet they always complain about their costs and struggles when government or insurance companies want to...

How much do you keep at your FX broker ?

In dollar terms or percentage of your liquid assets ? Apparently some folks keep a 6 digit account, why ? Aren't you worried about safety of funds ? I guess another way to ask that question would be to ask what leverage you use and what kind of positions you take.

    Bonds for the small trader

you must have misread the thread title. Isn't eSpeed for institutions ? If i trade cash it would be through IB , not sure if they link to different platforms and if they are open overnight or close to 24 hours a day. Also CQG is for institutional starting at $600/ mo.

    Bonds for the small trader

I would like to trade treasuries . I have used the CBOT contracts in the past for very short term trades but I would like to hold over night and build positions where I can average up and down. Because of my account size I can't do that with the big contract I would be wiped out in no time...

    Turn down job offer?

Forget altogether about trading . You won't make it and anyway if anything traders are about to become an endangered species over the next 10 years.

    Death?

FXCM is US based, so they will track down your relatives and give them access to the funds. In light of history, depending on the country where your FX broker is based they might not always do that, ahem..

    Who is Serge Aleynikov?

Well we have now proof that GS and US Govt are the same. Some low level employee transfers some lines of code on his laptop for work purposes or even with some other intent, then goes to another firm to do the same work and he is now according to the US government a "spy" that could "manipulate...

    fx is a dead game

No the real threat to FX is a move back to fixed exchange rates. I trade currencies but I am for a fixed exchange rate system . Floating rates are an economic plague that profits only to bankers and speculators.
