    Don Bright's system

Unless you are trading prop or a larger retail acct it probably isn't worth your trouble. But I'll teach you for $500 in one afternoon if you really want to learn. :D

Don's openings and more for 2005

I get a quote from NYSE only and a composite. CAES is another routing option and IB includes it. Usually it works well and there's often decent liquidity on it. It's no different than hitting ISLD or ARCA. Why not hit it if it's there and firm and you want out?

Don's openings and more for 2005

CAES is the Nasdaq's order execution system for NYSE stocks. I'm sure Don or someone could give a lot better detail than me. Basically they were all stale and messing up IB's routing.

Don's openings and more for 2005

8 fills +477 net. Loser last Friday though. Still 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Screwy CAES quotes definitely cost me a few bucks on my exits. It was causing problems with IB's Smart routing.

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

I'd like to be able to click on a bid size and get a sell order line with the size as the bid size. Comparable functionality for the ask size. Right now you get the default size, which takes time to adjust if you just want to take everything at the B/A.

7 fills, +536 net. LYO was the pleasant surprise for me. Was scanning my orders page after I was done (doing my "idiot check") to make sure nothing slilpped through the cracks and there's LYO not even open yet. Caught a quick 28 cents. It has been a mediocre month though. I'm up but not a...

You cannot short without an uptick at any time. Doesn't matter what kind of order it is or whether it's on the open.

You need an uptick to get a fill unless it's on the Pilot A list.

I got shut out on NOC today. Opened up a penny. Just the way it goes. I long since gave up bitching at the specialist.

    Free Partition Recovery Program?

This is very basic and will require some studying, but it was the only thing that worked for me when my hard drive got corrupted. It runs on the cmd line. The fancier free programs did not work. http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm

Who here trades "retail" full time

Trading is my primary (but not only) source of income. Wife who works, mortgage, no kids. There's no way I would have made the jump with kids. Too risky when you factor in insurance costs.

Who here trades "retail" full time

I wasn't looking to recruit customers, so I don't know how much the SEC would have to be involved. I just wondered at what point I could get things like sub .005 commissions and a redi machine as a self-financed entity. Anyone who knows is welcome to respond.

Who here trades "retail" full time

So you've got me wondering, at what volume/asset level would you essentially be able to become a self-financed "pro". In other words get prop-level commissions but through your own self-financed entity? And how would one go about doing this? Or is it just not worth the trouble and let IB...

Who here trades "retail" full time

I thought you traded prop.... through Genesis? As far as the number of people who made it from 1997 to now, I'm not arguing it's tough to maintain that kind of consistency. But 8 yrs is a long time for any endeavour. I wouldn't read too much into it.

What made you decide to switch back? And who were you trading with, if I may ask?

Who here trades "retail" full time

Very true. I haven't come across that many people who I can confidently say are making a living trading retail. Probably the only other profitable retail trader I'm aware of is Mr. NBBO. I guess technically mksummny is too since he isn't trading prop. I'm sure there are others. Let's see who...

Who here trades "retail" full time

Since I've gone full-time I've only used IB. Before that I had only used the web-based brokers (ETrade, Datek, etc.). I agree IB seems to be best. I've come to the same conclusion regarding going prop. Just can't quite justify the hassle. The big reason would be if I outgrew my capital or my...

Who here trades "retail" full time

I've traded retail full time for a little over 3 yrs. It's my primary source of income. I'd be glad to chat with you and other profitable retail traders.

Don's openings and more for 2005

Probably any other time of day and I could have dealt with it fairly gracefully with just 1 PC. But not 10 seconds after market open. I just had to close everything out, shut down, and go read the newspaper.
