    Trailing Stops

Adjustable stop are one tool. Trailing stop are another. You can combine them too. Adjust then trail. But frankly, they are sort of a last resort. Using either alone is like trying to walk in a potato sack. Better to work on maximizing profits first, and use these as "worst case" backups...

    Stop Order Not Honored

There are cases where Stops don't go through. Market order do not go through either sometimes. Markets are not always orderly. One should be aware for the instrument they are using, what are the market conditions, where are the order being held, what the protection limits are set at. These...

    Monitor Help

Yes: better dot pitch, moving windows to the 27" will be setup right (rare), 4K gaming is fun but need a serious card RTX 3000 series or AMD versions. No: Don't use the laptop screen (1080) because the other screen are easier to see and position. Personally, I would put the money towards a...

    Waiting to Blow up...

Agree, I know I can improve both within the system. Without hard data, I estimate W/L ratio can go up proportionally, about 15% over all market conditions that are specified. And I can see profits/loss going up to more like 1.75 to 2 points. Of course 1 helps 2. The reason I have not is I...

    Waiting to Blow up...

Hi Volpri, Thanks for the comment. I agree on the the profit bit. Whenever I enter a second or third lot, it is NOT because I want to average down but it is because if I did not have a position, I would "take it here". Turns out about 50% of the time, I make a fat profit on some or all the...

    Waiting to Blow up...

@Big AAPL I used the term discretionary very loosely in that the methods is pretty mechanical. But coding in the larger time frame elements I know will take time. Mostly in the error-exception points. As for the reversal, that is the next thing I am going to incorporate. To me it silly to...

    Waiting to Blow up...

All constructive comments welcome. Here is an generalized summary. A discretionary ES trading system, 70 days for 5 points a day. Just finished it last Tuesday. I wanted to see how long before it blew up, because I knew it would. Why? Because average win was 1.35 points and a 64% win...

Wear a mask if you care about your fellow human being ...

And in Japan, mask wearing is common, interestingly, it is because of the tree pollen for most people. Their public behavior is oriented towards civility. One could say, if you get COVID-19, it is your fault since one can do things to avoid it. I know 8 people now who have contracted it...

I deleted Windows 10 for a Linux OS - now I want Windows 10 back.

Have you ever won? Of course, that was a UNIX (BSD?) game originally, I believe.

    IBKR Notes Program

You have to be accredited, and when you sign up you are asking for the memorandum and subscription agreement. The details are in there. If you are not accredited, then you are not qualified, of course. Hope that helps. Since it is from IB, I should not be posting the details etc. All good...

    Negative reactions from relatives

I just tell them that it hurts your feeling and makes you feel bad. So now if they proceed, they realize what they are doing. It is legitimate to express you being hurt. From this point, there are many outcomes, but you get the idea. Make some progress, like a small gain on a trade.;)

    Dual WAN links for TWS

Good stuff. Interestingly, the Killer Network software does an auto roll over for me. Most I get is an indication of a lost connection and then a reconnect with IB. But this is with a hardline and a cellular to wireless connections. The cellular to wireless is slower, but not that much as...

    Midnight rally

Did less than 10 but did fine. Sunday nights there is often some pent up demand. Now it is stabilizing for awhile.

How much latency is too much for day trading?

Moving to a button and clicking takes 250-500ms, which is significant relative to what happens after. Also I think IB says it takes about 250ms to get your order from IB to the exchange (depending). Then you get in line for LMT orders. These are things that you can optimize. Hope that helps...

ES Plunge -4000 contract to wipe out all the stops

So 7 point round trip? Sounds good. I'll take 2.5-3.5 of those please. What's next?

    How to reduce a loss

Take scratch trades. Increase your odds by kicking out a percentage of your trades after entry. Sometimes you get in trades that are sub-optimal or turn sub optimal. Scratch them early, near BE. Start over with a better entry, price and probability.

ES - Trying to tame the beast

Hi Chilli, I mean this in the most constructive way. Looking over your entries and exits, both look pretty random and suspect. Random in that why one would take a position at that point. A lot of them needs some price action confirmation or there is direct dis-confirmation. And suspect on...

Why do traders talk about TA as if it is physics ?

Interesting the repeating theme, on a traders forum. Also the number of "explanations" and "assertions". One good starting point on these types of questions about language is theory. Here: https://plato.stanford.edu/index.html type in language. You come up with a lot of more technical...

    A little economic history puzzle

You might like this book "This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly" covers a lot of these scenarios. There have been a lot more that I thought.
