NY wants to try a FTT

I'd not forgotten our wager. While I would have been happy to make a contribution in your name, I'm pleased that we probably won't have congress and the White House all under the same banner.

The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

Yes, I have no doubt that the majority of votes were simply anti-Trump. The democrats could have run a ham sandwich for president, and it would have been elected. Down ballot, I am pleasantly surprised at the number of voters who actually gave it enough thought to split their vote. That's a...

The stock markets in the Biden era - will volatility diminish?

I'm sure you'll recall when he said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and his supporters would still vote for him. Well, he simply extrapolated that to his virus response. And he was right. 250,000 dead and his supporters don't care.

    Day Trading while collecting unemployment?

Income from trading/investing is not considered "earned income", and will not impact your UI benefits. When you file with the IRS, I would avoid using the term "trader", as you have not earned the designation via TTS, or filed for it.

Why is the stock market rejoicing if republicans have not clearly won the senate?

As for me, that's an ideal situation for the country. Divided congress and Trump gone.

Theoretically, shouldn't any indicator-based or relatively simplistic strategy have no edge at all?

There are thousands of instruments that can be traded, in an infinite number of time frames and combinations. I wouldn't lose any sleep over your secret sauce being stolen, and wouldn't let that concern keep you from trading.

Trump trade war has failed to boost U.S. manufacturing...

There were, and are, better ways to deal with China. But it requires brains and strategic thinking, which are sadly missing anywhere in D.C. Giving one person so much control over economic policy that gets intertwined with politics every four years is not going to help us complete with a...

Trump trade war has failed to boost U.S. manufacturing...

President Donald Trump's trade war with China did not achieve the objective of boosting manufacturing in the U.S., the Wall Street Jornal reports. What Happened: Manufacturing activity in the U.S. has not reversed despite billions of dollars in tariffs to discourage importing Chinese...

My Biggest Loss Ever and the Lessons I Learned

Over 20 years, 90% of my losing trades have been made away from my systems. The lesson is clear. But learning it takes getting wacked repeatedly until it finally sinks in.

    Shorting UVXY

I don't believe it is either...popular or successful long term. Having been around here for a while, I sometimes feel a responsibility to point out to new traders when I see a strategy mentioned that can be very threatening to their financial health. Shorting UVXY is one of them.

    Does the market really change?

The change is in the DEGREE and the ENERGY with which markets go up down and sideways. Thus, saying that there is no change in the markets is ignoring some very important factors. You might as well go sailing, but ignore the force of the wind. Good luck with that. Hope you can swim.

"Humbled" Abby Joseph Cohen Warns Of "Considerable Downside" In Stocks

If I'm not mistaken, that was around 1988 on Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. "The market may go down. If not, it is more likely to go up. Over the next 12 months."

Is it worth it to buy options with wide spreads?

Do the math. You need to be willing to open a trade in which you may already be giving up 20% or more, just to fill the spreads. Long calls with those kinds of spreads are really only appropriate when you have a very good chance of an explosive move in a short timeframe. Otherwise, you'll...
