FWIW, there are roughly an equal number of members who trade on a breakout compared to the number of traders who trade on a retracement - http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17561 And, even a small number who trades countertrend. As for the DAX, only a few trade it...

Simtrader, It seems that your middle line is roughly equivalent to a 20 EMA - for those without "adaptive MA" on their charting program. I think what you are doing is called "intermarket analysis" pretzel

Yes, you can have quotes on IB if you subscribe from your account on the IB website - 8 euros/month. There is also the German Bund (GBL), which BTW, rolls over today to the Sept contract. 10 euros/0.01 tick - dont know if Simtrader is also trading this. pretzel

From what I gather, false breakouts occur when the volume does not sustain the move - either you get out or reverse. So, you have to keep an eye on volume (which is a also primary indicator like price since it is not derived from anything else) pretzel
