So, why are volatility ETFs such poor performers, given THIS?

I get that (I think) DeltaRisk. They are always rolling their futures so they have a 30-day away averaged maturity date. But if this guy was carrying the next month's futures, waiting until they expire, and then moving on to the next one, it seems like his expiration would be 30 days or less...

So, why are volatility ETFs such poor performers, given THIS?

Take a look at this article. Very insightful: http://jonathankinlay.com/2016/07/developing-volatility-carry-strategy/ He tests shorting VXX, and buying and carrying the front-month VIX futures (which I would guess means carrying the earliest month until expiration, then buying the next one...

Just buy dips on high volume

1a2b3cppp, interesting. Question - why is your line between 7 and 7:15 yellow? It looked like a down day on big volume - shouldn't that be green? Thanks.

So, does the market predict economic downturns, or cause it?

No, no, I long ago realized there is no holy grail leading indicator. What I was really wondering is whether one should even attempt to study/measure economy leading indicators - if essentially they are triggered by the market cratering, and nothing can predict that, then studying the economy...

    So is tomorrow knife-to-the-gut day?

Up today, but well off the highs, and up on much weaker volume than recent up days. Some of you have been calling for a further sell-off. Is that likely coming (starting) tomorrow? It just feels like tomorrow might be a bad (materially down) day...

Patience is a virtue — especially for investing

So... shall I patiently wait while the upcoming bear market drops the value of my stocks by ~30%+?

So, does the market predict economic downturns, or cause it?

I get that about the market being forward looking. But is it also its own self-fulfilling prophecy at least to some significant degree? For example, if bad economic data comes out (such as syswizard describes - inflation, interest rates, deficit), but the market did NOT go down, might the...

No , I am not Taleb

Haha thanks Soes! I listened to most of that, but so long. I heard him saying some math, then he said "that's why you never meet any rich forecasters" or something similar. Was that him recognizing his math didn't add up? Or did he say something dumb somewhere else? Thanks!

No , I am not Taleb

So, does the market predict economic downturns, or cause it?

Is there any evidence as to, when the market goes into bear mode, and a few months later the economy tanks, the market PREDICTED the economy tanking, or instead whether it caused it? Thanks.
