Queries before Openning an Account with IB

You are welcome. If you want to try more platfoms, NeoTicker and MultiCharts would be good choices (though they are not as cheap). If you tilt towards trading futures as opposed to equities, have a look at ButtonTrader. It's not a charting but rather order entry platform... but for a...

    short in HFT?

Making market usually comes with an obligation to provide bid and offer on the instrument at all times, including periods of high volatility. Even larger HFT shops prefer to avoid the obligation. Instead they prefer to trade via CFDs using the privilege on another market maker.

    Backtesting with Interactive Brokers

I understand it's only for stocks. With futures IB stops providing data for individual contracts very soon after the future expires... and I am not aware of IB offering any "continuous" future price series. Please let me know if you think I am missing something.

Queries before Openning an Account with IB

Exactly! It's simple price differentiation. Same as with airlines giving students lower price or free right to change a ticket. If the main thing you want from charting is indicators, QuoteTracker is great (just make sure to get it now because Ameritrade are withdrawing support for it)...

    Sad sad day

I guess it's a sign people feel wealthier. They no longer want frozen meat, only chilled. (In fact I haven't eaten "frozen" meat, except for fast food restaurants, for 5 years or so.) At least lean hogs are still there.

    Queue position?

As far as I can tell exchanges don't communicate the order position in the queue even to their best customers. So, your best chance is a company that builds a (very non-trivial) queue reconstruction algorithm, pays for every "level" of market data (as opposed to 5-10 levels of best bid/offer...

    Backtesting with Interactive Brokers

You make a good point. However, I would hesitate to start a flame war against kramer65. First, there are a few accomplished discretionary traders who believe they can communicate their experience to a developer so that the trading strategy comes our ready without a need for backtest...

    short in HFT?

Just to explain a few things... When you sell shares, you have 3 business days to deliver them. You do NOT have to be in possession of shares when you sell them. If you buy the number of shares you sold on the day of sale, you are covered. HFT traders don't hold "overnight" positions. So...

    Backtesting with Interactive Brokers

Proper backtesting requires substantial amount of historical data and the history you can get from IB is very limited. So, it would be misleading to provide a backtesting tool in TWS when there is not enough price history for any backtest to be conclusive. kramer65, on what instruments is...

    Strategic Pork Reserve

We might have to ask a local expert regarding what kind of pigs the Chinese are hoarding. These could be skinny (A.K.A. lean hogs - not so much bacon when there is little fat) or these could be overweight (A.K.A. bloated swines - for "salo").

Ron Paul: "The U.S. Government Must Admit It Is Bankrupt"

It could be high time... just remember to convert USD into some combination of EUR, JPY and physical gold with a little CHF and GBP on the side. When choosing a new home country for your funds consider taxes levied on foreigners who don't live or conduct business in the country and whether...

    Strategic Pork Reserve

I guess as a speculative "short". I asked because my first impression was you were hinting at the Chinese liquidating a strategic long position in PIIGS, similar to pork.

    Education For HFT

Best trading platform for equity cfd`s .

It's Contracts For Difference. Instead of buying or selling "cash" equities, one trades a rolling non-deliverable forward-type OTC contract, same as with majority of "retail" forex brokers. CDFs are particularly popular in the UK. First, trading them is free fom "stamp duty", stock...

EU : Ban on ratings for countries under international rescue schemes

The "clampdown" should be in the form of introducing more competition... like giving European rating agencies more say in risk assesment as far as European financial regulations are concerned. On a second thought, Basel II is this kind of clampdown. Each bank in a country that implemented the...
