a hypothetical question regarding CL trading

To answer the question as you asked, you are correct. This is why GSCI has lost money, the rolls in this steep contango are offsetting directional appreciation. But like others said, you can't assume it will always be in contango.

    Why does Crude Die?

Floor locals still trade a large chunk of daily volume, they just do most of it on globex themselves. At 1.30 when the closing bell rings, most still go to the bar, hence the falloff in volume.

    Grandma's Broker Just called

Count me as another bear then, I am selling ES on the close today to play what I expect to be asian weakness on Sunday night due to some changes in China. I also have a hunch we may see some further controls talked about this weekend in China to cool the market. Maybe even have a policy...

    Great sale

Time to sell natty. Anything over $8.20 in June should pay off nicely into settlement. The S/D balance is quite loose at this juncture and the funds have been trying to orchestrate a short covering rally that has really never gained steam.

    Housing Data

You always say it is no big deal, it is minor information. I suppose you will finally think something is not so minor when you get a margin call.

BINGO!!!!! What you just said is the whole point of the post (adding inventory is bearish, not bullish).

    Housing Data

Your logic would be true IF we were concerned about the homebuilder. We are talking about the broad economy however, the one that has had a larger part of GDP tied to increasing home values and the mortgage equity withdrawals that have fueled a large part of consumer spending. Increasing...

    Housing Data

Funny thing the human mind, how people take a piece of data and come to different conclusions. If the housing #'s look weak, the market will respond to the downside, and vice versa. In reality, isn't it more logical to think that lower #'s are more supportive as this will help to...

Will We Have A 7% Or Greater Correction By August?

Obviously you know nothing about arbitrage. Arbitrage doesn't care which direction and to what magnitude a market moves, it is just a differential. Where were these supercomputers on 2/27?? A Silcon holiday perhaps?

    Shanghai

Does anyone here know if there are derivatives traded on the Shanghai index, or is it just a pure index of stock trades with no way to lay off risks or trade around the clock? I know from reading that there are no products for us to play with, but are there any for chinese investors to use?

What does the 'US is over and will have to print money' crowd has to say about this?

Don't forget an easy way to get rid of all this "printed money", a global equity meltdown. Money vanishing before your eyes, liquidity gone.

    Wall street sequel

the timing is impeccable!!!!! "It isn't just the Energizer Bunny nature of the major indexes that has spurred talk of a denouement, though. Frenetic deal activity, record financial-system leverage and unprecedented public fascination with successful money managers are other indicators of...
