    Anyone else get UAL buy-in?

Inmate: Where are you still able to be short?

    Andover Takeover

Robert, So, your post tells us that anything we say in an interview with a firm is free to be posted in a public forum? And this is ethical? I guess I need to remember to carry an NDA with me to meetings.

    I Luv Tws!!

For those of you that use NX elsewhere, is there something I'm missing about what should qualify? I thought that if the quote size is > 1, and the order was 1099 shares or less, it was supposed to be eligible unless it was a "fast market" (where the quote size is usually 1 anyway).

    I Luv Tws!!

Quote from nitro: How would you be able to tell if it was NX'ed or not using IB? Can't (unfortunately). I guess based on fill speed. If it's just second or two, then I assume it was NX. I suppose it could be a spec that drank too much coffee :) Yes, TMBR continues to provide executions as...

    Anyone else get UAL buy-in?

Last week, IB customers got notice of a buy-in of short UAL positions, effective Wednesday. Apparently, it was not an idle threat, and those that did not close out did, indeed, get bought in. Did anyone outside IB have the same problem? Any idea which firm called the stock back, and how...

    I Luv Tws!!

In practice, though, it seems that I rarely get an NX execution, even when the stock should be eligible (normal market, quote size > 1x, order < 1099). I'm quite surprised when it does happen. Is there something about a limit of one NX every so many seconds that is applied per firm (not per...

    Has anyone traded these contracts?

I've traded the mini FXs, EDs, and gold. The EDs are excrutiatingly illiquid. I once had a spread against the big contract that took me days to get out of! With the mini FXs, most of the time, it's just the arb/MM making a wide market around the big contract's 1-3 tick spread. These have...

    TICK and TRIN in TWS?

No TRIN, TICK, or other statistics pseudo-symbols. IB does not attempt to be a quote service, and generally provides quotes for traded products only. There are some exceptions, like providing indexes on which you can trade derivative products, like NDX, SPX, and INDU. NYSE composite is NYA. See...

    Ib Sucks

Quote from Tea: How about a yellow or red light that lets you know if your connection has been interrupted or lost. TWS and the IB server exchange a "heartbeat" messages every 15-30 seconds (or so). If TWS stops getting this heartbeat, it tells you it's not connected by showing a magenta grid...

    Ib Sucks

Quote from mdmbud: I spoke with a second specialized attorney today and he said that IB's agreement is joke nd he told me to gather the info Either your attorney is inexperienced, or he's just telling you what you want to hear. Many people have bashed IB's agreements as being unusually bad...

    Ib Sucks

Quote from CarlErikson: 1. Island usually busts before 2 hours have passed? 2. Island usually doesn't adjust? 3. Island usually doesn't try to alter a trade that is less than 10% off? 4. Island usually busts pre-market trades before the opening print is known? Very good :) 3 out of 4...

    Prop firms and position trades?

I remember a Hold Brothers guy at a trade show showing me his statement. It was a veritable graveyard of positions that he was probably waiting on to start going the right direction :)

    Ib Sucks

Quote from iceman1: ...Not saying one should take a big hit or not stand up for one's right when things are crystal, but now if they arise, which luckily there have been very few, I found out that patient negotiation usually gets more results than hostility, that there is value to a "longer"...

    Ib Sucks

Quote from abba231: ...piece of advice: If you are seriously pursuing legal action, I would recommend you tone down the insults and antagonism. Generally, there's another good reason for this that was not mentioned. One of the more significant costs related to such problems is the bad PR...

    Ib Sucks

Quote from Option_Attack: I quite often have stock limit orders that are way under the market fill on nonexistent prints... This problem is not caused by IB, or even strictly by the exchange. The fault is with the other party to the trade, who typo'd his order and hit you that far away from...

    Spread margins friendly brokers

I don't know of any retail brokers that reduce margin requirements for stock spread trades - I'm not sure they can - they have to comply with Reg T, NASD, NYSE rules. Pro firms, OTOH, are more flexible, and can margin accounts based on perceived risk. I believe Bright simply nets long and...

DEF: Ihope you got a bonus

Not to minimize def's greatness, but I've recently worked with others at IB that seem to share the same attitude and respect for customers. I have a hunch that that culture may filter down through the ranks over time.

    DEF. A suggestion.

I'd like to see the numbers, too, but instead of the keyboard shortcut pane at the bottom of the window. This way, they could color the quotes to show which direction they went from the previous tick, and show the change (also in color). I think I've seen the "tear-away" quote lines in...

How much does a specialist make??

Sometimes, I wonder how they do it. I was trading GD the other day (an $80 stock) during the first hour, and it was wandering around a 25 cent range, with a 0.05-0.15 spread for long periods of time, printing a couple hundred now and then. Before decimalization, that range would have been a...
