Namely, it will go to about EUR/USD 1.55 before the market opens at the end of the week-end?

    How to get IB's attention?

From my experience, chat via the Web account management page is the fastest way to receive an answer. It would usually take under an hour for simple questions and with more difficult one it helps to try explaining the nature of the question/problem again in different terms. The support are...

Any tips for trading from hotels while traveling?

It's often better to choose a room where internet is included in a rate or where the hotel has free wifi. If to enable internet you need any sort of login, chances are you'll be regularly diconnected and waste valuable minutes to log back in.

IB offering gateway access (API without TWS)

I understand the gateway behaves pretty much like the TWS. I cannot comment on the specific issues with SierraChart as I don't have the latter.

    Building your own trading computer

But is it necessary if you get the same spec from HP with Xeon instead of I7 for the same price and with more PCI-E and USB ports?

IB offering gateway access (API without TWS)

Runs here just fine.... and my own applications work with the gateway as if it is TWS (after the port settings are adjusted). Some 3rd party applications make strong assumptions of it being a TWS such as searching for TWS window... which obviously doesn't exist with the gateway.

    Day Trading is a pipedream.

You can deny that Peter Griffin from Family Guy is retarded.. but does it make the animated series less successful?

    Day Trading is a pipedream.

I thought ProfLogic's reply was from one person under influence of smoke to another... where smoke doesn't necessarily come from tobaco.

How to split partnership for a CTA firm

If you split the management and performance fees differently, there will be an obvious questions regarding how expenses are paid... So, you'll need to pool all fees together, pay the company's expenses, split the fees... Or pool the expenses and use the same fraction of the 2% and 20% funds to...

Raising Capital as a Discretionary Trader

As it has been correctly pointed out above "quantitative" traders get advantage because their systems can be backtested. One may need a good number of years to generate a trustworthy track record but many "quants" bypass it by showing a backtest instead. Also a few layman's myths add to it...

    Automated Trading Software

There are lots of platforms out there. Just check http://www.elitetrader.com/so/ From there you need to formulate some requirements: 1) Do you want the platform to work with multiple brokers? (tradestation isn't there) 2) Do you want the platform to have order API so that (with some...

How to split partnership for a CTA firm

My pleasure to help! No harm in being creative. I remember George Lucas made most of his money by reserving rights for the name "Star Wars" and souvenirs.

How to split partnership for a CTA firm

Is there any fixed fee not linked to the profit? If you belive in success of your trading you may want to negotiate a higher fraction of the fixed fee for your partner (as you earn fixed fee because he bring clients) and lower fraction of performance incentive. In any case, don't be afraid to...

When you know it will be a bad day...

Thanks Mark! That's an interesting suggestion. In the worst case I can go to the cinema whenver I think I should be done with trading for the day.

When you know it will be a bad day...

You have a point! Fixation on disastrous mistakes facilitates negative thinking. This way a trader may never risk another trade... ever :) I guess different things work for different people.

When you know it will be a bad day...

That's certainly a good approach. Alternatively, I can configure the maximum daily loss in the software I am using. What maximum daily loss compared to the daily goal would you recommend? I still find trading more of competitive sport than routine but I hope some day to be there.

Don't we have monopoly laws on the books?

Apparently, banks are large enough to wreck the whole market (or so the authors of the "rescue" package want the public to think) but they are not large enough to fall under competition laws. Also, enforcing competition laws is more tricky when the government is involved. For example, in the...
